It's strange how events kinda line up in themes. relationship problems for everybody one week, political the next. its like everybody's on the same system *shrugs* its just really odd.
lately its been religion, not so much as problems, but I've been hearing a lot of different interesting opinions on it. first of all, everyone's welcome to their own opinions, and I completely respect that. But, for example, in one of my classes the other day, we got into the debate of religion vs science on how we were made. Some people said that it was impossible for god to just snap his fingers and then all of a sudden we're all here. others said that they were insulted that anyone could consider us deriving from a less intelligent species, such as apes or even single cell organisms. I then chimed into the convo and asked 'well...why can't both be right?' and even though they all had answers, none of them could make me see their points fully.
some said that god made the world in seven days, and that we couldn't possibly have evolved in such little time. Well, what if the seven days was more of a metaphor? what if it were really seven billion years or more. one "day" could be millions and millions of our years. and the whole evolution conflict, nobody seemed to agree with me that god did create us, but just as another species. He could have set us down on this earth as a microscopic bacteria, and from there, we evolved into humans during the "seven days." I mean, there's so much evidence to evolution. We've uncovered the bones of animals that relate to both people and apes. But most of teh students argued that religion shouldn't be based on evidence at all, it should solely be based upon faith in the church and it's teachings. But not once, that i can remember, did the bible flat out say that theres no such thing as evolution.
I've always believed to never follow blindly, but to see the second meaning of those things that have been told to me. to me, the bible is almost like a poem. with the metaphors, similes, and other figures of speech. But, that's my opinion
