I voted!
It was the first time I voted in person ( I voted in absentee in 2004) this time I had to wait in line for an hour and then my polling place was very organized, everyone was freindly and helpful and the actual voting process took something like 5 minutes, tops. I was on a high for the rest of the day and my "i voted" sticker is still on my purse and will remain there until it falls off.
And this was the first time my candidate won! I try to be realistic that with two wars, the economic crisis and energy issues we are going to have some tough times ahead but the great thing is that after 8 years of leadership that was ignorant, partisan and short sighted (and seemingly proud of it) we have a president who is none of those things. As he himself said, the path ahead is rough and diffiicult and voting for him alone won't make this country better, we all have to work towards that one together.
And in a more petty note: IN YOUR FACE RASCISTS!
And also I still can't believe Virigina voted for a Democrat. One of McCain's advisors said something about only real virgininers would vote for McCain. I guess that my entire family that has lived in in deep south VA for the past 15 years and pretty much always voted for the Democrat but I guess are just a bunch of fakers.
DC had people rioting in the streets (DC is one of the most liberal places in the country and I think had 93% of peopel voting for Obama. I think his innaguration will be a stark contrast to the past 2 where protested and even egged Bush's car.)
I'm still sad that so many anti gay-rights bills were voted into law. When I was married back in April, tThe day after my parents freinds had a brunch for out of town guests, hosted by a gay couple who had been together for more than 35 years. They had been together through good times, bad times, finanfical sucess and failures, good health and ill health. What is to say that their relationship isn't any less committed or loving or faithful than my marriage or that of my parents? Their commitment to one annother is the same. They are already married in every sense but the legal one. Their marriage would in no way cheapen my marriage. I was greatly saddened to see these measures being passed and I hope that in my own lifetime I will see gay marriage, or maybe since I'm shootng for the moon, an openly gay president or vice president.
My sister and I went home to say our goodbyes to Shayna our wonderful pooch. Throughout the weekend her behavior was somewhat erratic. She refused to eat and was very lethargic, but some times she would perk up and want to go for walks and act all frisky. It was so so so hard to say goodbye to her and know that I would never see her again. Some part of me just hopes that she would die in her sleep and we wouldn't have to make that difficult decision of when we will decide to euthanize her. For the time being she is eating a little bit and isn't in any pain so my parents are taking things one day at a time.
C. took me to see Kooza last night as a late birthday present. I was just blown away by it all. We had front row seets and had amazing views for everything! One thing that was different for me was that the performers made so many mistakes. (maybe they were up late watching election results like the rest of us?) During the high wire act, a guy fell off the high wire and then caught it with his hands on the way down and then pulled himself up. In some way seeing them make mistakes but recovery beautifully gave me even more respect for these performers who were pushing themselves to their very limmits and yet they were still human.
My favorite acts were the Wheel of Death and teeter board. The contortion was really good, i've been following the mystic pixies for almost 4 years now and it's knd of weird to see them in person.and looking all grown up. The trapeze act was cool (the rigging was kind of marraige of swinging trapeze and single point) but I felt the skill set needed work, there was lacking variety in her skill selection. The juggling was awesome, but the presentation felt so weird and cheesy.
Time to wrap this up and go play rockband!
