Ok, so i apologize for taking forever and a day to make a real update, but so much has happened that everytime i sit down to update i'm like, "man, this is gonna take forever!" and then just don't. So i'll give you all the short and to the point version of what the last week and a half has been like.
Last Wednesday night we drove up to Lauren's in Vermont... if you know VT at all, her house is kinda in between Montpelier and St. Johnsbury... so it takes us around 3 1/2 hours to get up there. It's great, though... beautiful ride, though very long. White River Junction is our half-way point, so i am always obnoxiously cheering whenever i see a sign and letting michael know, "White River Junction, 68 miles!" and so forth. But it's fun.
We had a great time up there... Thurs and Fri his aunt was working, and the baby was at daycare, so we kept ourselves occupied by playing rummy and taking trips. We went to Montpelier and i got a great tiger's eye necklace and some hematite "buzz" magnets at this shop called Cool Jewels. The magnets are wicked cool, they really do buzz! You can toss them up in the air near each other and they'll buzz and click as they connect and stuff... easier to demonstrate than describe. Then Friday we went to the Steam Mill Brook Preservation, which is listed in the atlas as a good place to view wildlife. We didn't see any, but i got a lot of pictures of the land and stuff... as we were leaving, i got some great shots of the mountains in the distance - you could see 4 different layers of mountains, it was incredible. I'm waiting for the pics at BJ's, which apparently switched from their "overnight" service to a like 5 day one, which really pisses me off cuz i was gonna do 1 hour photo but wanted to save money since i had 7 rolls to develop... pissin me off, oh well.
So we got to play with the "babything" as michael calls her, though her real name is Larissa. I call her Rissa-Roo. She's adorable. Little mulatto baby, fine curly SPRINGY hair that is slowly growing out to a 'fro, ha ha. She'll be 2 in September, and she and michael absolutely adore each other. He's the surrogate mom when we're up there, lol. A rather touching piece of info came to us since we've been home, too - apparently, Larissa is now walking around the house saying "Mikey home?" and looking out the door saying "Mikey Eep?" looking for the Jeep. How cool is that? :)
We had a great time up there, swimming, boating, eating. Lots of eating. I tried asparagus for the first time, and i must say i like it. :) Though it's kind of a combination of green beans and brussel sprouts, it tastes pretty good. :)
We left Lauren's at 10am on Sunday, and drove the Kancamagus Highway across the state of NH. We saw the White Mountains, took a hundred pictures, and enjoyed the gorgeous ride. We also saw a baby Black Bear!!! I got a ton of pics of him. It was soooooooooo cute! We were all wary that Mom might come around, but he was gorgeous. :)
We drove the Hwy to Maine, and took a detour to Kittery. We went to the Kittery Trading Post and shopped like crazy. We're never gonna get out of debt! That was a new record for us, over $200 charged there. But we've been really good lately, so i guess that helps. We got a tent, a new pair of tevas for each of us, a couple Life is Good stickers for our respective Jeeps, i got a Life is Good water bottle, etc, etc. It was cool though, EVERYTHING in the place was on sale. Veddy nice, veddy nice indeed.
We went to Bugaboo Creek for dinner, and that was cool. The food there is quite yummy. We were pleased.
And we finally got home about 10 or 11 hours after we left. The majority of that time was driving. Long day.
So then Monday i started my new job at the Boys & Girls Club. We have some good kids and some bad kids. But it's survivable. What really sucks is the fact that these children have absolutely NO coping skills to speak of... they scream and cry and tattle and don't know how to handle anything. Rather annoying, because then we have 60 kids running up to us crying that he took my turn at pool and that she's looking at me and he hit me with the ping pong ball ON PURPOSE and that she's spreading rumors about me. All at the same time. *sigh* And field trips have been exhausting. A lot of these kids are bratty and can't handle it. But they're not all monsters. More about that later.
Tomorrow i'm marching in the Parade in Fitchburg with a couple of the kids from the Club... so if you're at the parade, look for me! And wave! And throw candy at me or something, i'm sure i'll be hungry. :D
Oh yeah, last night we saw 5 baby foxes run across the road... and stopped to watch them for a little while... soo cute.
So take that Miss Jennybean. :p :)
