Title: A Shoulder For You
Rating: PG
Pairing: SJ
Summary: Post-mission breakdown.

Author's Note: A snippit of a longer story I never got around to writing.

She felt herself go limp, sliding down the wall to sit as the tears poured out. Slowly, carefully, Jack came to sit beside her, a source of comfort, reassurance. Finally, Carter could breathe normally again.

“Apologies for the waterworks, sir.”

Jack offered her a bandanna; probably one of Daniel’s he had left here some time.

“You don’t have to worry about it, Carter,” he said, standing to go get her some decent (if big) clothing besides the pajamas. Sam missed him the moment he was out of sight; missed the drowsy, warm love that had been her first feeling when she woke up that morning. But his voice floated back to her, on the connection that went deeper than friends. “Let’s get you home.”

No, she wanted to say sleepily when he picked her up to bring her to the car. I’m already home.

After all, wasn’t it where the heart was?
