Well, a lot's happened since I wrote that last entry.
About an hour or so after I got home from S&E, my mom told me the bad news... my great grandma Minnie has passed away.
How lucky I am to have known her for 18 years. I would tell you her age, but she'd "kick my butt" if I did, according to my mom. She didn't even have a service or a shiva (jewish tradition of gathering at someone's house when a relative passes away) and my mom suspects that the reason is so her age wouldn't be announced. Aw, that's my Minnie... she should be proud of her age, though. She had a nice, long life. Well, not all of it was nice. She grew up in Ukraine in a less-than-ideal town... especially since she was Jewish and the nazis were shooting cannons down her street. All these different people "took over" her town, so she learned 5 different languages by the time she was like 12 (Ukranian, Russian, Polish, Czech, English). Luckily she made it to America and married a wonderful man named Syd (who I was also lucky enough to meet, but died when I was 4).
Minnie was so lovely and gracious. She also had a great sense of humor and loved and cared about EVERYONE. She would keep conversations going for hours, and called my mom and other friends/family every day (if she didn't pick up, Minnie would assume something terrible had happened to her, lol). She also loves babies and children... when I was born (Mark and I were her first great grandkids) she got on her hands and knees and crawled with us on the ground, lol. She also goes to all my shows and musicals... at King & I she even gave me a flower, some cheetah-print sunglasses, and an envelope filled with hard candies and various coins. She's such a doll! Ha, oh yeah, she also named her walker "Go-go" and claimed that it was a Ferrari. Aw, Minnie. What a wonderful, beautiful person to have in my life.
So now there will be no more of Minnie's soup (only she can make it, others have tried but it just doesn't come out the same!) and no more "Minnie Marks" (lipstick smudges from all the kisses she gives), but she's still in everyone's hearts, always. I love you, Minnie!! Rest in peace.
