Character Information

Name: Lianne Marie Tenning
Alias: Leeya, Lee
Age: 20 (DOB: 18 October, 2594)
Gender: Female

Physical Description: Lianne‘s considerably short, and while it may be due to the radiation that her mother was exposed to while Lianne was in-utero, it‘s always bothered her. She‘s only just under 5‘2“ and has the build of a ballet dancer - skinny arms, skinny legs, narrow torso, lithe shoulders. Her face is thin as well, just barely a voiding looking sallow, and she has a small pointed nose. Her lips are small and thin, but her eyes are large and blue-grey. Her hair is bleached blonde (naturally dark brown) and falls just past her shoulder blades with colored streaks running through it (she changes the colors every time she re-bleaches her hair, but they usually alternate between soft electric blue, sage green and hot pink). Her jaw is thin but not pointed and her face is heart-shaped.

Her hands are small, thin and feminine but there are callouses all over them - from both living mostly in and out of train stations and playing various instruments (bass, guitar, drums, cello). She’s pretty disgustingly thin, really, to the point where most would assume she was anorexic. Her bones are very prominent in her shoulders, hips and spine and her elbows and knees look large and awkward because of the thinness of her limbs. Her body type is that of a pear, with narrow shoulders but wider hips. Her skin is ghostly white, though there’s a good chance that’s because of her ability.

Power/Ability: Lianne has the ability of electrokinesis. That is, she can emit powerful charges of electricity from her body which, when controlled, can do some serious damage. As a child, she caused major blackouts by accident. Unfortunately, due to shortages in the wiring, this means she can't swim, or she'd kill herself and anyone else in the pool/ocean.
Personality: Lianne is totally reckless with no regard for authority, social cues or shame. She is loud and obnoxious to a fault, a trait that she uses to her advantage by channeling it into her music, and she pushes herself onto other people, forcing her way into their lives once she has an interest in them. She does stupid things (commits stupid crimes, even) because, growing up without a family structure, she simply doesn't understand the faux pas that has been established against it.

She lacks shame and respect for gender boundaries, mostly because the kids she grew up around didn‘t bother with it when they were more concerned about eating, and partially because she even now lives with three boys and they all change together for gigs. Unfortunately, this also has less convenient applications, such as her starting to get undressed before others are out of the room, and the like. On the opposite end of the spectrum, though, she has a wide girth of personal space that she doesn't like intruded upon. Mostly, she has a zero physical contact policy.

She’s extremely vulgar, to the point where it shocks most people considering her delicate and petite stature. To see this little cute girl all of a sudden come out with swear words like you’ve never heard before has shocked more than once. Lianne likes to do everything for herself. She gets offended when people try to help her - gentlemanly acts like opening doors and pulling out chairs even makes her frustrated because she feels undermined or as though the person assumes she can’t do it for herself. She’s very defensive and aggressive because of the dog-eat-dog nature of the area she grew up in.

She’s incredibly spontaneous and always wants to be doing something, mostly because she is afraid that if she doesn’t she’ll simply be wasting her life away. When she’s not moving around, or talking your ear off, she tends to think too much and begin to brood, but this is a rarity. She hates being alone, and can’t fall asleep if she is. To the same end, she pushes people away a lot because she’s worried that they’ll leave her so she doesn’t want to get too close.

Brief History: Lianne was born above ground in what used to be South America - one time Brazil, specifically. Her town was small and rural so rather than getting straight-up bombed, it suffered only by-proxy from the nuclear assault. But it was because of this that her family was one of the last to move into the underground - her only memory of her parents is of their concern and worry over whether or not they’d be able to make it into the safe zone because of crowding. Once they were in the underground, things were easier for a little while. Her parents had a hard time re-adjusting; her father worked at the power plant and her mother stayed home. However, at the age of 7, Lianne woke up to find that both had disappeared. And while she wouldn’t understand it at the time or even suspect as much until many years later when she met her conspiracy theorist bandmates, they had been taken by DEL on suspicion of being mutants (only her mother actually was).

The time after that until she was 14 was mostly a blur. For about two years, she moved between subway and bus stations - great sources of spare change that could get her food enough to survive off of - but when she was 10 she went to her first orphanage. She ran away from it after 6 months, realizing there were rules and expectations that were demanded of her. She’d go through three more before, at the age of 12, she met a group of kids that were like her. A group that her now-bandmates were a part of. They were surviving the difficult city together by hopping the turnstiles at the public transport stations and pick pocketing the patrons as they moved out of the quickly closing doors. Sheer brilliance. The rest of the people on the subway, if they noticed, wouldn’t do anything about it and the victim wouldn’t notice until it was too late to get back on.

It was an excellent plan until 14-year-old Lianne tried it on an off-duty DEL officer. Agitated, he dragged her off the subway car by her hair. After a scuffle, he wound up buying her lunch and finding out about how she had come to live with this group of kids. The officer, David, took care of her for some time after that. For her 15th birthday, he got her an acoustic guitar. That Christmas, she was hit by a car. The driver fled the scene, thinking she’d been killed, because she was propelled back a good 20 feet by the sheer momentum of the vehicle. However, she left a bigger dent in the car than was left in her. Aside from some bruising and a few cuts, she was unharmed. David found her lying there and, as an agent of DEL, was more than capable of figuring out what was going on. But, this was Leeya, his surrogate daughter, so instead of taking her in, he instructed her to run away and never tell anyone about what had happened. With her guitar and a backpack, still smarting from the car accident, she walked away. And, she kept walking until she found the last orphanage she’d stayed at. In the alley, like clockwork, her old friends were still staying.

They went back to pick pocketing, but she joined up with some of the other kids who had instruments and started a band. They did some street performing, and after trying to do it outside of the Broken Lantern for a while, the owner finally said they’d have to either take it inside or find another place. So, they took it inside. After a while and after realizing they were actually bringing in customers, he invited them to come back every Friday and agreed to pay them a small amount for it, plus a 5% commission for anyone that came in with one of their flyers. They haven’t actually made the flyers yet because they’re pretty cheap, but they finally got around to, about a year later, buying an apartment together.

Their band, which up until that point had been unnamed, earned its name “Dead End Lepers” after they started living together when they realized that they were all, in fact, mutants. This happened thanks to Lianne: clumsy is as clumsy does and she wound up taking a tumble, not down the stairs, but over them. Off the banister and slam into the next flight, then tumbled some and stood right back up - bruised, but never broken. The others admitted to their own condition after they’d made sure no one saw Lianne’s glorious fall, and now they constantly mock her for it. Anyway, so they realized that all four of them (Ian, Jack, Liam and Lianne) were mutants and after a comment Jack had made about mutants being lepers, the nickname of the city (Dead End Loop) brought them to name themselves the Dead End Lepers.

Occupation: Since she was 16, she has been in a band that plays every Friday at the Broken Lantern. Other nights, they do street performances individually or in groups around town.

Purpose: Above all else, Lianne wants to have a good time. Her bandmates talk about making it big, but she’s more interested in enjoying the small crowds. Buuut, she also wants to get a new guitar. She’s bought a pretty cheap electric, but she wants a really nice vintage -I don’t know if Les Paul still exists but if it does, she wants one. Otherwise, some other really cool vintage guitar. She wants to find her parents, if they’re still alive. The boys have convinced her that they were taken under suspicion of being mutants (they convinced her after they found out she was one) and that the DEL have her so she really wants to shake down a DEL agent and find out, or rather get something to use against one of them so that she can get the information on her parents.

Beyond that, her purpose is finding out her purpose. Why does she have these powers? She pretends she doesn’t care, but she does. She wants to find out that there’s some higher order giving them to her for a reason. You could say she’s seeking salvation but nothing about religion appeals to her - organization, submission, reverence. She just wants to feel important.

As for my purpose for her, I want her to be a catalyst. She’s all about raging against the machine and convincing people to take action and I want to see her do that and cause something awesome.

Sample: “N-TWO-Y CITY. GOOD NIGHT.” Lianne had her hand raised, lips barely an inch from the microphone as she screamed, blinking her eyes over and over to try and keep the salty, burning sweat out of them. Her tank top was drenched and she heard Jack vaguely tell her, once the sound equipment and lighting had been shut off for the night, that she smelled. A finger was flipped in his direction as she hoisted the guitar off her shoulders, unplugging it and bringing a gloved hand to her mouth to cough. Regardless of how used to playing in this atmosphere she was, the smoke always got to her. You’d think in an underground city, people would realize how fucking stupid it was to be ruining their already disgusting air.

That was something she missed - one of the few flashes she could recall of life before the underground. Even poisoned, the air outside was superior to the stale shit that was down here. She pulled a cigarette from her purse and lit up. Hypocrite, her mind accused, but she just laughed. Liam said something about her finally going off the deep end, laughing to herself like that. She ignored him for the most part, just snorting that he was really one to talk with the way he rambled in his sleep. That shut him up. Leeya shot a quick glance at the clock - 1 AM.

“Guys, the night is still young! Let’s go out and do something exciting. Paint the fucking town red!” But, the boy were already looking ready for bed. Jack mumbled something about an early morning and Lianne rolled her eyes. “Bullshit. You don’t have anything to do, you’re just a lazy ass.” He didn’t refute it, but his expression remained unconvinced. “Guys. Seriously? You don’t want to go pick up chicks or --”

“Lee,” Liam’s tone was serious - always the fucking patronizing asshole, seriously, what the hell-- “We’re going home - and you should too. How much sleep have you even been getting lately? You’re always out later and up sooner.”

“Thanks for the info, Dad, I hadn’t noticed.” Sarcasm - the best defense. Lianne turned away and hoisted her case up against the wall. “You guys go home, I’m going to stay out a little longer. I’ll be in before you’re asleep, you’ll be pissed you didn’t come with.” Liam opened his mouth to say something and Jack stopped him, gesturing for the three of them to leave - Lianne obviously wasn’t coming with. Ian came backstage with his drum kit finally packed and looked confused by the awkward tension - an infuriated Lianne and an exasperated Liam. He said nothing and left with the boys and their instruments. For some time, Lianne rested her back against the wall and brooded - they were friends, not babysitters, who did Liam think he was kidding? That she’d just come home when he called? They were supposed to understand that it wasn’t like that. They were runaways themselves, they were supposed to understand how it felt to not want to be tied down.

A half hour had passed before she finally pushed away from the wall, hoisting her guitar case onto her back and leaving through the alley exit of the club. The air was cold - it always was, this deep underground. She should have brought a jacket. Liam would have given her his if she had left with them. Instead, she was stopped at the mouth of the alley by a guy, probably 6’ with broad shoulders. He asked if she was the pretty guitarist. She ignored him and ducked right. He caught her by the shoulder and said she was being rude. She socked him. Her punch didn’t seem to hurt much, but the nice thing was that it didn’t hurt her any either, no matter how thick his jaw was. When he grabbed her wrist to try and keep her from trying it again, she kneed him as hard as she could in the groin and pushed him off. His hand released her in favor of holding himself - calling her a bitch.

“Fucking asshole, maybe you shouldn’t be such a creep. No wonder you have to try and pick your women up in dark alleys, shit.” Spitting in his general direction, she turned heel and ran. Fucking shady city and it’s fucking shady clubs and shadier people and fuck this.

She didn’t tell Liam. She wouldn’t give him that satisfaction.
