I could just see Laura not being lucid and having Cain say "you're under my protection" and freaking out even though she was too weak to do anything.

Yes. There was a point where Cain says something, and I couldn't think of a response, and it occurred to me that since Laura is messed up on drugs and cancer and near-death experiences, maybe she couldn't, either. I don't think Cain could have gotten away with this if Laura wasn't really ill.

Yeah...she probably wouldn't have been able to think of a response but I could imagine the doctors going "why the frak is her heartrate rising?" or something because of fear.
