It was on another sleepless night that she first met him, insomnia really was a bitch, that much was certain.
In hindsight it was a big mistake to be wandering the streets of the city at a time when things that would go bump in the night were around doing just that.
Her train of thought didn't really stay on track when she'd only had eight hours sleep in three days either, which was why any self-protective instincts she might have had seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Lita wrapped her arms around herself, hurrying a little faster near the coffee shop she ordered a cup and then went to sit out on the patio, pulling out a pen to doodle on a napkin.
“Now what would a woman like yourself be doing out alone on a night like this pet?” A blond man stepped out of the shadows and Lita bit back a gasp when she saw him.
It was an instant knowledge of being near someone who was dangerous, yet she found herself drawn in. He didn't seem to want to hurt her but she couldn't help the inkling of thinking perhaps earlier in the evening he might have hurt someone else.
“I couldn't sleep,” Lita found herself answering, worrying her bottom lip between her teeth with a soft sigh as he joined her at the table.
If she were a cat, her hackles would be up, but yet there was something. Maybe it was the cheek bones or the lack of sleep but she felt the need to talk to him.
“Shame, beauty like you shouldn't suffer dark circles under her eyes,” he rested one arm on the table and her eyes were drawn to his nails, painted black. A stark contrast to the pallor of his skin.
Lita smirked, shaking her head. “Do those lines actually work on people?” she asked him as the waitress came by with her cafe mocha and sat it down in front of her.
He chuckled, glancing up at the waitress he seemed completely tickled by her attitude, as opposed to put off. She didn't know whether she should be glad or even more frightened. “Do you have hot chocolate luv?” his voice grew smoother, more flirtatious as he spoke to the waitress.
The waitress clutched her ordering pad tighter and nodded, “of course we do,” she tried to flirt back, almost upending the coffee on the table much to Lita's complete disgust.
“Good, fetch me a cup please, extra marshmallows,” he requested, turning to Lita and arching a scarred eyebrow. “So what's your name pet?”
Lita scowled at him shaking her head. “I am not your pet,” she told him.
He grinned wickedly, nodding his head. “Do you want to know mine then?” he asked her, tilting his head to the side.
Lita laughed, “hardly.”
Something burned inside of her as she met his gaze, swallowing heavily as she did so as she realized she was in pretty big danger.
He smiled suddenly, a broad open grin that startled her right before his face shifted into something like she had never seen before. “Name's Spike pet, don't worry. It's not one you'll forget.”
He leapt at her and black danced in her vision before the feeling of something sharp sinking into her neck and hot white pain encompassed her and took her under.
