Class right now: learning about why--even with educational intervention most people remain in the class that they are born into. It makes sense to me, especially looking at some of the people in my class--one dude has made repeated comments about slacking like its cool. I'm like, you freeloader, you are only here because you are in the middle/upper class. None (ok overstatement) of the frat boy types would make it into upper education if they were from the lower class.
The article that I just read makes the case for desegregation and busing efforts (as well as raising the minimum wage). Truly that's what I think is best, I think. Studies show that there are more behavior issues with kids born into poverty. And having working with kids on anger management I know this is true. Spread the problems out, don't let them all compound upon each other in one place. Plus school attitude is something that suffers in low income areas, and if you can keep the norms of achievement high, this only helps. However, then suburban teachers would have to learn new skill sets, which a lot are unwilling to do.
SOCIETY WHY MUST YOU CONTINUE TO SUCK, IT'S LIKE IT'S ON PURPOSE.
I've started applying as fast as I can to as many school districts as possible in MN. The schools of my dreams are South and Southwest: which I think are really strong MLPS schools, or a lot in Saint Paul like Como or Central... I'm not going to get into any of those. I just applied at Andover, which is where Garrison Keiler is from and Michelle Bauchman. AHhhhh! It'll be so small towny.
