Korea jaunt part I.

Apr 09, 2010 11:10

It’s been so hectic lately. Holis play a big part though. Hehe.

I am back from Korea!

Geddit a lot of the Korean’s culture and their way of life during this trip!

I wasn’t really prepared to go korea yet! Luggage packed 1 day before which is on babe’s birthday. Spent only like less than 1 hour to tie up all necessity things needed for the 1 week jaunt, and rush down to celebrate babe’s birthday with all colleagues. Rush to the max.

Flight time is 10pm on last thursday. Work never ends, tying up loose ends at work on thursday. Indeed a hectic day for me !

Korea is indeed a country swathe in green, prodding its stony fingers skyward, and the Koreans are a people obsessed with nature, and with mountains in particular. Wherever you travel, you'll see Koreans out in the open air, clad in the latest adventure fashions, pushing ever onward and upward. But oh wells, imagining the entire farm vale in green during spring or summer, unfortunately, weather are still cold upon our arrival and apparently seeing all in browns - dry trees, dry farm! =X Nice in a way too.

Day 1:
Upon arrival at Incheon Airport, the world best airport voted on 2009! But I like changi airport still.. tsk tsk! We proceed to Paju to visit the Imjingak and the bridge of freedom - The DMZ (Demilitarized zone). Some history of Korea learned, DMZ is the dividing line set up according to the Korean war cease-fire agreement in the year of 1953. It is a buffer zone to stave off hostilities between north and south, and imjingak is a park that was built to console the homesick refugees.

Side track a little, the weather is cold when we just touch down - like only zero degree celsius in the morning! Weather should be around 10 plus when we checked few days before, 7 degree one day before when we checked. Drastic changes of weather. Sigh.

Alright, followed by a great lunch at a well known Korean restaurant, that specializes in the traditional ginseng chicken. The ginseng chicken that has glutinous rice inside the whole chicken is really mouth-watering, and I added 3 dough of noodles to go with it. Yums! One displeasure when dining in korea is that they have no chili padi. Sadness to max and I rely on pepper almost on all meals. Woot!

I kinda like how this picture was taken though!

Up next - Namsangol Hanok Village(traditional Korean village). You may consider it interesting to find this area standing between the tall buildings. This village has restored five traditional Korean houses, with a pavilion, a pond and a time capsule which makes it a perfect spot to take a walk.

Handmade wishing well.
Apparently there isn't any board stating it's wishing well, but people still throw coins in and we almost did too.

Did you notice we shares the same pair of gloves? My hands are freezing, so as babe one! My gloves are in my luggage, babe blame me for that both of us suffered. =X

Giant handmade shoes. Man behind doing on the spot.

Nevertheless, evening is our shopping time in the famous Dong Dae Mun wholesales market. Alas, didn’t buy anything as everything is winter style. Boo..

Heavy pictures for this entry, back for more again for day 2 in korea! *Cross finger.

On a side note, met up with my 2 BFFs last evening for dinner. After dinner, like our favorites - pepper lunch, we decided to go for a drink or two and we went to our usual urban dress-down hang out place - one of a gentlemen pub along Thomson road.

Better don’t reveal the pub’s name, we are indeed crazy over there, singing songs like out of the tune, drinking and shaking like nobody looking! =X that’s why we named our urban dress-down hang out place! Please don’t caught me there. Wahaha-ha. Un-glam side of me!

We can’t wait for our LOB diving trip in less than 2 weeks time, totally! Underwater world, here I come again.

Stop!
