Huh. A lot of people have been questioning of late how much right Congress actually has to bail out corporations or even to regulate industry. So, tonight I went looking, and I discovered this, from Article I, Section 8 (Scope of Legislative Power), among Congress's rights:
To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes
So, in other words, yes, Congress has the right to regulate the business of American corporations as they exist today, for they are no longer limited to single-state trade, and most are international. Whether or not this means bailouts count as regulatory measures, I'm not sure. I don't like em, though...
