Thanks to
lisafeld, I'm finally reading the Vorkosigan saga. I've read The Warrior's Apprentice, The Mountains of Mourning, The Vor Game, and I'm about one-third of the way through Cetaganda. And I'm hooked. I adore Miles, and it's nice to read some old school science fiction. I've been reading so much fantasy in recent years, I hadn't realized how much I missed a good space story. I really love Bujold's plotting; the way things just seem to keep getting worse but somehow Miles manages to make it all work in the end. The whole "hey, I accidentally pulled together a rag-tag mercenary force" in Warrior's Apprentice was great. And I know that I need to go back and read all about Cordelia and Aral at some point, but I think I want to finish Miles' story first.
Then Jason got me hooked on Diablo III. He started playing it last week, and Wednesday night he asked me if I wanted to try it out. This is exactly what happened with Diablo. I was working on my dissertation, and Jason encouraged me to take a break. "What could an hour or two hurt?" I thought. Eight hours later I came up for air and thought I should probably eat something. Fortunately we can't play at the same time (at least, until I get my own account), so right now I can only play when he's asleep. It's been great while I've been off, but once I go back to work on Tuesday I won't have that many opportunities to play.
