Yesterday was an interesting experiment in father-daughter bonding as my dad and I attempted to Escape from New York (TM). My dad thought our flight was at 1:30pm out of LaGuardia, and neither of us bothered to check the tickets to confirm this assumption. However, when we got to the airport at 11:30 am, we were informed that our flight was gone (at 11:30 am). Turns out, the flight was supposed to get into KC at 1:30pm, which was what my dad remembered.
After overcoming my initial fury, we got some lunch, the New York Times and a John Grisham novel and managed to pass some relatively pleasant hours in the terminal. We were able to fly standby on the 6:30pm evening flight and made it home without too much additional trouble. The only problem was that I couldn't drive back to Lawrence, so I klonked out in my old bedroom shortly after arriving.
As for people I didn't get to see in NYC, I thoroughly apologize. I'm not very good at coordinating these visits, especially since this one was a "fly-by-the-seat-of-one's-pants" venture since my primary task was accompanying my father to protect him from his parents.
I face the beginning of my second semester of law school, a summer job to find and a wedding to plan. Damn, that's a lot on my plate. To complicate things, I find myself in the middle of redefining my goals and values in my new context. This taking stock business stirs up a lot of silt. I only hope it will settle sooner rather than later.
