"...I'm not a real doctor, but I am a real worm." - They Might Be Giants
Lest the barrage of complaining in the previous post convince you otherwise, my transition to not-QDRO land has been pretty positive. After a weekend of resting and watching dislocated snippets of Band of Brothers with M. (there was a trip to the farmer's mkt and the purchase of new sneakers in there, too), I hit the ground running on Tuesday. I took the car in for an oil change (and now need to make an appt. to replace a serpentine belt), went for a haircut, returned overdue library books. I even managed to clear up my kitchen a little (though a more thorough cleaning will have to wait for later).
On the less-utilitarian, more fun side, I was ableto snare the world-travelling
arsenicjade for some much-needed hanging out.
It's been hot and humid here, with occasionally torrential thunderstorms - Ah, KS in the spring! One side effect of running around in the heat is that I'm really not hungry- and I have this fridge full of fruit & veggies and yogurt that I'm pretty sure M. won't touch :)
After my walk on Wednesday afternoon, which helped me dissipate all the nervous energy built up during my crazy morning, I continued my efforts to terrorize the cat (albeit indirectly) by vacuuming the upstairs (kitchen and hallway). M. came home and then Mushkie-llama came over to watch
Moon which is a very strange movie, but it was nice to have some sibling bonding time before he goes off to CBF.
Part of my efforts are to reconnect with my compatriots whom I've missed these last few months wrapped up in QDRO-land and Llama-life. When things are difficult, I tend to conserve energy otherwise used for social encounters by rerouting it for basic life support systems. The irony is that once I've invested the initial energy in overcoming inertia, social encounters tend to be energy-producing for me.
So if you get a communique from me now, it's not because I'm trying to sell you something, it's because I've missed you. (Alas, I have learned that calling a friend you haven't talked to in a while to distract oneself from frustrating circumstance leads to uncontrolled vented about such circumstance. Feel foolish, but I hope I can make it up.)
I have a planned volunteer gig for girl scout camp at the end of june to give a talk about earthworms - I hope to get some more research/ better posters together - Right now I have hand drawn posters in magic marker on flip chart paper. (I feel like worms are the stars themselves so they require only low tech accompaniment - no power point here. Also, low tech minimizes the potential technical difficulties that may occur :)
