It was a dark and glowing night

It's cold and dark and the shortest day of the year. I think that means...party!

M. is a sick puppy. He has a cold and is wallowing in mucus. (poor M.!) Luckily, he has the Really Big TV(tm) to keep him company. Mommy-llama came over with chicken soup and chanukah gelt (yay!). M's mommy came over with latkes and chanukah cheer. We lit chanukah candles and celebrated M's birthday (which was thursday) with chocolate cake. M. blew his nose a lot on and put on the new pajama pants I got him for birthday/chanukah.

Before all of this, I was on a caffeine-fueled cleaning binge. (Okay, a little shame-fueled, too, b/c I knew the mommies would be stopping by). I cleaned: the Kitchen, washed all the dishes, vacuumed and mopped the floor, cleaned all the counters, vacuumed the hall and bedroom, cleaned up the bathrooms, and am in the process of doing serious amounts of laundry.

I also stopped at the grocery store and picked up chanukah candles for tonight and chocolate to bring to work tomorrow. (Went a little crazy with the chocolate). You have to hand it the Manischewitz company for bringing Chanukah candles to a grocery store in Olathe, KS.

If I was as intellectual as I used to pretend to be, this post would have launched into some soliloquy about the tension in our society between religious and secular impulses and the dangers of theocracy, with liberal use of the inflammatory phrase "Jewish Taliban" in reference to the Maccabees, the heroes of the Chanukah story. Tonight, not going to worry. It's dark and cold, bringing a little light and levity and sweetness into the world is a good enough reason to celebrate.

Chag Sameach! Happy Holidays!
