I'm can see the end of my extended hiatus from adulthood approaching. I start at the new job on Friday, which I haven't posted about because I don't want to jinx it. It is with the retirement department of a large multinational investment bank dealing with QDROs (qualified domestic relations orders). Thank you for all your congratulations and good wishes. I'm excited, but also kind of nervous. (OTOH, Some may argue that "nervous" is my default setting.)

The Mommy-llama took me shopping for grown-up work clothes. I also have started investigating slow cooker recipes as a way of coming home to a prepared meal.

This week, I've continued to enjoy volunteering with the staff attorney at the domestic violence shelter. I'm working on a memo about how federal statutes such as the Parental Kidnapping Prevention Act, the various incarnations of the Violence against Women Act work with state statutes (which are mostly the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act) to affect women fleeing domestic violence situations with their children. (In the worst case scenarios, women fleeing DV situations across state lines may be charged with parental kidnapping if they take their kids.) Also, I got to go to DV court and to divorce court to watch proceedings. Afterwards, staff Attorney K. took me to an attorney luncheon, where the food was fantastic and I got to meet other lawyers, which was fun.

Have been working the network, sending along good karma when I can.

Feeling a bit untethered, which should hopefully subside once I get ensconced in a new routine.

domestic violence, jobs, adulthood
