Good morning, New York City. Currently sitting in the living room of Yossi and Jamie on the Upper West Side, who have put me up on the sofa of their apartment and conspired to feed me oodles of delicious food. Jamie also purchased a horned melon (an orange nubbly fruit that looks like it had its genesis in a Dr. Seuss book) because she always wanted to, and it was a refreshingly delicious combination of a kiwi and cucumber. Then we watched Star Trek TNG. Ah, like old times!
Yesterday, I came into NYC from Washington DC on the Amtrak, which was extremely pleasant. From Penn Station, I made my way to
marlarose, who with her daughter
baby Shevs are v. v. entertaining. This kid is hoot and a holler...she moves with such joie de vivre and is always laughing and giggling. While Shevs was napping, Marla and I were able to catch up, but mostly we just played with Shevs. Shevs is fascinated by glasses/eye wear. She just is so surprised when she realizes part of your face is removable
D.C. was also lovely. I was able to spend time with
gryffin23, and we played with her parents' cat and dog. Gryffin and I also went to the zoo on the hottest day of the summer, so many of the animals were sacked out asleep in the heat when we saw their enclosures. (The otters were snoring in a pile!) The indoor exhibits were wonderful, especially the small mammal house and the reptile/amphibian collection. The meerkat colony was just like on tv! We particularly approved of the elephant shrews with their long twitchy noses. They also had a black footed ferret and prairie dog exhibit, but not enclosed together (ostensibly to prevent the ferrets from eating the prairie dogs.) It was nice to have some w. Kansas flavor to the eastern US trip! We saw the pandas, but they each were kind of doing their own thing. (sleeping, eating, pooping.)
Also spent quality time with Grandma Fanny and Auntie Merrily (proprietor of hotel Merrily, the best guest accomodations in the Silver Spring area!) Met up with Law school peeps Qinglan and David. Qinglan met me in chinatown, were everyone speaks Cantonese, not Mandarin, so she can read the signs, but has to speak english. I took David to Max's kosher deli, wherein he renewed his love affair with the potato knish.
Food is fabulous. There is no jazzercise this week, but there is walking. (there is also more eating.) Yay elastic waistbands!
