avoiding the inevitable

I have been avoiding thinking about the bar.
Instead, I have:

*Gone to a birthday party for our friend S with M. and S's parents and grandma. We got to substitute for S's two sisters who have just moved to Denver. We had a lovely time and ate too much.

* Watched M. continue unpacking. I have let him hang up all our posters and diplomas and framed art, merely making suggestions where certain pieces should go. I have also let him clear out the shed. The house is starting to look like our place, now that it has all our stuff in it.

* Attended a Jazzercise class in the Olathe center. While the participants are different, the "types" and of course, the routines are the same. Had a very good time, even if I was exhausted afterwards. (When you skip for a couple weeks you lose some measure of endurance.)

* Paid a visit to Kristin and baby Lucy. Kristin let me hold her, and I was terrified at the small flailing body with the huge head I held in my arms. But Lucy was warm and soft and smelled good, so the terror sort of faded as I marvelled at K's new toy. "Do you know what you're doing?" I ask, when K started to do some Mommy-thing. "Not really," she said, "These toys don't come with instruction manuals.".
I also got to play with the cats, who have been somewhat lacking in human attention since Lucy's arrival. The cats and I discovered a shared affection for string, which amused us for nearly an hour.

However, I may think about the bar some tonight. I got a triptik for Jefferson City and stocked some provisions which I will take with me. I feel rather like the hapless player at the beginning of "Oregon Trail" where you start off at the general store and have to decide what to get for your wagon. I also may even review some notes and study questions!
