not one photon or one electron more

When I heard that, my first thought: "Dude, I don't know if President Bush knows about photons or electrons."

I finished with exams Thursday and did something completely uncharacteristic.... I went shopping. Jones was having a bra sale and I stopped by Marshalls to pick up some tshirts. Also took my dress to the tailor to get the sleeves snugged up. Stopped by Chez Parents for snack and snuggle with dogs.

I let Elmo and Molly out to go potty after Josh fed them their kibbles. I chased them off the deck and ran around the backyard encouraging them to void their bowels. I praised them extravagantly as they proceeded to do so. Then Molly's whole body perked up as she ran around the back yard. Elmo followed, I didn't see what it was at first that had captured their attention, as I climbed back on the deck, until a tiny "squeak" caught my ear. I leaned over deck rail...Molly was carrying something in her mouth. "Oh crap," I thought, "one of her little friends." I raced back down the steps and approached Molly, she had a small furry body with long legs hanging out of her mouth. She was so proud! She dropped it to show me a very dead and slightly mushed up baby bunny and picked it up again. Elmo had one too!
As I internally debated the best way to remove the bunny from her mouth, I heard a crunch, crunch and Molly forced the small body clutched in her maw down her gullet. "Oh shit," I thought, "I don't want to be there when she throws up on the rug. Elmo was still carrying his (dead) bunny around, dropped it and then Molly picked up, crunched and swallowed. I was horrified and fascinated. Molly is physically smaller than Elmo, much more dainty and gentle. But I also know that she's the one with the "hunting instincts" (I've seen her catch crickets, birds, etc), while elmo's more of a retriever. (Dad commented, "Elmo hunts socks. They don't run away." ) Still, it was pretty amazing to watch the gentle molly-dog swallow her prey pretty much whole...like a damn anaconda! Then, Elmo and Molly took turns sticking their heads into the now-empty rabbit hole to look for more furry treats. I could not tear them away from it. First one would look, then paw at the ground to enlarge the hole a pit, and then shove his or her entire head (or as much of the snout that would fit) into the hole. That kept them busy for at least half an hour until Molly gave up hope of additional bunny snacks and decided to scratch on the door to come in. I explained to Dad the situation and he was pretty grossed out, too. "Except," I said, "This is the happiest I've seen the dogs in a long time!".

I still think Molly's dominant, because she was the one who found the bunny hole and killed the bunnies and ate them. Elmo appeared to be along for the ride. (Though there was that one time there was a nest of something on the other side of the fence and Elmo ate/tore off two of the fence posts to try to get into Mr. Tabor's yard to find them.

I also got book 2 of Temeraire, Throne of Jade where Laurence and Temeraire visit the emperor of China and meet temeraire's dragon relatives.

Today, went to Topeka for Elderlaw CLE seminar. I learned about Medicaid and how the state recovers medicaid expenses from estates, how lawyers deal with incompetent clients and how to set up a special needs support trust. Some of it was over my head, but it was a good intro to lots of important issues.

Came home and klonked out. M. makes fun of me for being lazy. "But I was tired!"
"I get tired, too," he said, "but I don't take naps at 4pm!"

ever a point of contention. sigh.
