I tried the 8:20am jazzercise class this morning. And I'm feeling pretty good. Not even the discovery of a new ding letter can get me down this morning.
In my exhuberance, I will send some shout outs to those whose worthy deeds have made my radar:
To
arsenicjade: congratulations on successfully defending your master's thesis and offering to feed me a triple layer brownie torte! (not to be confused with the less pleasant tort.)
rockjock: How do you know
kijjohnson? I don't know him/her personally, but I recognize his/her name from events at the KU Center for the Study of Science Fiction (which is part of the English Dept.).
flolow: Have a wonderful flight back home. Say hi to your weapon for me.
In other news:
Last night, the Columbia Reception was actually very nice. I hung out with all the KC Columbia Club regulars...men who are all 15-50 years older than me, but much like the people I went to school with. Strangeness unique to Columbians only gets weirder with the years, my dear Columbia kindred :) And I like that! Since I was the most recent alum there, I regaled the 3 acceptees who showed up with tales of the dorms and dining hall and the core curriculum. The older alumni talked about the '68 riots. Evidently, out of 50 kc area applicants, only 6 were accepted. I love wallowing in nostalgia, but I realize that if it weren't for affirmative action for llamas-from-KS (aka "Legacy") it is highly unlikely that I would be ever have been accepted.
The partner at Blackwell Sanders (who hosted our reception in their snazzy new plaza-library suite offices) is a CC, CU Law and CU MBA grad and also a tax attorney and he encourage me to apply. However, I think he's a little out of touch with the HR reqs for associates..."Um," I explained, "I'm not exactly Law Review material."
Then I stopped by Chez Parents to see Grandma, Dogs, Parents and Zach. "Don't leave yet!" zach said. (I think he's lonely since all the Passover guests cleared out.) M. was watching "Frasier" when I got home. I never watched it when it was on regularly, but it is a remarkably funny television program.
