Please throw that out, it has clearly gone bad. Kale does not smell like that usually. Or at least, not in my experience o.O. Kale is delicious and beautifully fresh. It's really simple to make, too. Just heat up a skillet with some olive oil, throw in the fresh kale leaves (shopped into however small pieces you like to eat), and then use a wooden spoon to move them around until they are bright green and juuust getting wilty (cook longer if you like them wilter). Take them off, then toss with lemon and salt and pepper, and it is a delicious warm side dish. If you want to get fancy with this, you could have sauteed some onions and mushrooms first and then added the kale on top of that to cook down.
Or you can steam kale! I haven't done it, but people tell me it's great that way too.
Just get fresh kale that doesn't have an odour, except a fresh one when you put your nose right up to it. You shouldn't be able to smell it from afar.
Ah. Alright. I couldn't tell because it still looks fine. This is the first time I've bought kale and we got it in a container. So, I couldn't smell it at the store.
Yeah. Kale should not smell sulfuric when fresh. Also,'it should look pretty stiff when uncooked. In fact, unshredded raw kale can be hard to chew, it's so hardy!
I love making kale chips. I hope you get to enjoy them soon!
