In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I don't know that much surprises me in fandom any more. Maybe I'm surprised by how much I still love the fandom I'm in even after nearly a decade of being a part of it. It almost feels like it's integral to who I am now. I'd be happy without it, but it's like my own personal ray of sunshine.
Being here for so long doesn't really let you experience surprises often, but it does let you build up a healthy dose of respect. For the people, for the stories, for the fandom. A lot of us have been together for years and you guys feel like my family.
Even when our family knows about our fandoms, it's still a secret that we share, a world that we build, a headspace that we live in. You guys allow me to be a part of myself freely. It's a part of myself that I could be with others, but they wouldn't fully understand it.
Surprises are great, but you guys have been the greatest surprise and gift of all.
