Name: Skew.
Age: 21.
Where: England. Born in the Midlands, live in the north.
When did you become interested in war/Pacific/hot men:I've been interested in history, particularly 20th-century history, for as long as I can remember. The past fascinated me as a kid and it still does now; the world wars get covered a lot in British primary school history classes, and I recall falling head-over-heels in love with fighter planes of the period after my grandparents took me on a trip to the RAF museum. I'm fascinated by war in general, and I've got a particular love for the aesthetics and styles of the 40s; don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the strides we've made in technology, medicine and civil rights, but I do sometimes feel like I was born in the wrong decade

Your journal: closed or open? And what do you post about most often?
Almost completely open. It's mostly just memes and fandom stuff, with the occasional sharing of interesting links or grumbling about my everyday life. I try to keep the latter to a minimum, though; I prefer to keep myself to myself, if I can help it.
Three random facts about you GO!
1. I am one of fandom's token blokes. I take it as granted that everybody assumes everyone else is female on LJ - I know I do - but I just felt I should probably point that out. 2. I have a bad habit of impulse-buying hats. 3. I'm afraid of butterflies. Not seriously phobic - I don't mind them when I'm outdoors, and it's not like I freak out just at a picture of a butterfly - but I can't stand being in the same room as one. Something about their horrible fuzzy bodies and papery wings makes my skin crawl.
Favorite ship, if you do ship?Let me just state for the record, I'm very much into bromance and friendships, and when I started watching the Pacific, I told myself I was going to just

What the hell. How did I miss that ass? Hillbilly is also cool because of this.

So you're one of these elusive men that we keep hearing about? ;)
I love that scene so goddamn much. I warmed to Hillbilly because he's just so calm and level-headed; he's a total badass but in a really matter-of-fact way, like it's all just part of the job. (Which it is, mind you, but you know what I mean.)
And, y'know, he's hot. I'm not going to pretend that wasn't a contributing factor.
And yes, I know! A MAN. ON LJ. THE HORROR. Don't worry, I'm house-trained.
Oh, I completely failed to take notice of Hillbilly and Haldane in ep5; it was only their combined awesome in ep6 when I suddenly realised who they were. (And heck, some of my favourite characters in BoB took three or four viewings for me to be able to consistently recognise and put a name to.)
I think I've got them all down now, but it took a long time. Like, about eight watches to finally realise who Alley was. (I wish it hadn't taken so long - he's ridiculously gorgeous.)
And sure thing! The more the merrier, I always say.
with me it's grasshoppers and locusts, but seriously bad, I can't even look at a picture without getting the creeps, and everybody I know thinks I'm weird, because I hate grasshoppers, even though green's my favourite colour. anyway, I totally understand you. Butterflies are a bit weird.
Oh, I know a couple of blokes in my war fandoms, and various others floating around other parts of LJ - still, chaps tend to be in the minority. Which I don't mind at all, given that male-dominated forums for my particular interests (ie. war movies and comic books) tend to be full of pompous argumentative douchebags. Who don't take very well to guys going on about other guys' arses.
And, urgh, grasshoppers. I don't mind them in theory - I don't encounter them much, living in the city - but I'm pretty sure I would make a high-pitched noise and freak out a bit if one jumped on me.
Oh, Skew. I'm just going to butt in here and warn you for any visit you might have to the North American South East where we have a creature known as camel circkets or spider crickets. I've lived with them in my house for almost 20 years and they still freak me out. I am certain you can imagine what they look like.
Oh, trust me, I'm well aware that if I ever visit rural America or Australia, I am going to spend 50% of my time shrieking "ARGH GET IT OFF ME". Especially Australia, where all the wildlife want to kill you.
You really would think I'd be a bit tougher about this thing, seeing as I grew up in the countryside (and spent a great deal of my spare time hanging around in fields), not to mention that my mother brought me up to not be afraid of bugs, but I'm a tremendous wuss about anything to do with the outdoors.
No, no, I grew up in the country in New York, but it wasn't until I moved to a city in the South that I saw bugs of a size which still frighten me. Don't even get me started on the palmetto bugs (a nice Southern genteel way of saying huge-ass roaches that you can never get rid of b/c all the houses have damp thanks to humidity). Basically whenever I see one of those bugs in a room, I slowly back away and run in the other direction. They can fly, okay?
I swear, it's just the wings. Big wings on bugs are creepy. And butterflies also have that semi-vampiric thing going on too.
Yeah, I think it's the flying that bothers me. Small flying things are fine, but if it's anything larger than a bumblebee? FREAK-OUT TIME.
It mostly stems from this one summer where our house got invaded by Painted Lady butterflies. Every time I opened my curtains or reached up under a shelf, I'd disturb one and it'd fly into my face. One got trapped and woke me up, every single morning, with the sound of it battering itself against the window. It took weeks and weeks before it finally died.
So I've been kind of bothered by the papery little shits ever since.

Butterflies are still the worst, though.

okay, I should consider myself lucky that I didn't encounter one when I was there.
