I learned several things about myself today, while organizing my itunes. for starters, i am the kind of person who listens to music ironically. Who knew? Seriously, i keep Madonna, Shaggy, and Michael Bolton on hand strictly for the purpose of an ironic chuckle. kinda sad...
i learned that my staples are iron and wine, sufjan stevens, and the goo goo dolls, with an aweful lot of death cab for cutie and coldplay. I learned i am incapable of deleting the Beatles. i have their entire discography, and while i don't actively love all their songs, it feels wrong to get rid of any of them. Also, i love the entire American Idiot album. I wouldn't call myself a fan of Green Day, but i think that CD is fantastic. I learned there is some music that i liked at thirteen and will never stop liking-- things such as spice girls, ace of bace, savage garden, and jewel. I own nothing country except save a horse, ride a cowboy and devil went down to georgia (lynard skynard does NOT count). I do have some favorites in classic rock, despite my idiot ex's obsession, and i know that i can look beyond styx and guns n' roses for great music. Also, by some sheer anomoly, all the radiohead and decembrists are on Jeremiah's computer, an oversight i will remedy.
In wierder news, i have a cd's worth of french rap, which is awesome! also, i really love eminem... my computer seems populated with lots of indi music, and then eminem. wierd. and, yes, most of my collection would undeniably fall in the indie category-- i can't deny my love for wilco, belle and sebastian, moby, and xavier rudd. Also, for those who wish to mock me, there are some gems in my collection that i wish i could be more ashamed of than i am, like brittany spears, hillary duff, and mandy moore. Call it a carry over from pre-teenhood.
anyway, three hours later, music is organized and lovely! now all i need to do is figure out which of my 1,051 songs we should play at the wedding.
