Rose "Back to the 50's" doll

“Is there any other way to go, daddy-o?”

Yes, amigurumi chibi! Rose Tyler is finally done and I’ve written a crochet pattern for her.

This little crocheted doll is inspired by the character Rose Tyler, and her visit to the 1950’s in the Doctor Who episode The Idiot’s Lantern. We got to see Rose look unusually glamorous with a new hairdo, dangly pink ( Read more... )

Thanks Paxie! I am so tempted to start planning Reinette now that I know how to do the skirt. Geez, like I don't have enough to do...;)

If you want, I can help with the PDF thing.
I did a some preliminary examples (no pictures since I can't download them from flikr, but they're easy enough to add.)

I would probably want to add a PDF TOC, for the sidebar, but that's apparently not as easy as it appears at first blush. If I've kept to my design layout software, it would have been, but then you wouldn't be able to maintain the source, which I assume you'd want to do.

Feel free to make any comments including, Go to hell. Don't touch my stuff. etc.

Hi mdyesowitch. Thanks for the offer and making up that sample. Wow, that looks so professional with the table of contents and with all the headers you put in there! I think I can get access to Acrobat. It is just the time involved in laying out the pages with all the photos, especially the hair stuff, with adjacent / wrapping text. I haven't done layout before, so it is not a no-brainer task for me. It is something I would like to learn to do, though, and I think it could be done in MS Word.

Then I have to figure out where to download from since LiveJournal doesn't host files for downloading and I don't have a website. I think that Blogspot or Wordpress has file hosting, so maybe I could start a patterns-only blog, like I've seen some people do.

Oh, I downloaded the links to take a look at them. If you would edit your post to take them out, I'd appreciate it. :)

Thanks again. It really looks so nice the way you organized everything. If I can't get access to Acrobat for the conversion, I may contact you for help. :)

Since you've replied to my post, I can't edit to remove the links, so I removed the files. I can always email them to you, or put them up in a different location if needed.

If you want ideas for how to transfer files, we can always go through one of those download sites, have you upload a zip file containing the images and set it up to be downloaded with a password. They expire after a few weeks, or you can delete them earlier.

Also, I can probably set you up with a way to ftp to my website (the aforementioned yesowitch.org) if you wanted to upload a zip file there.

Ideally, you're at a point now where all you need to do is import the photos into the file at the appropriate places and you're done. Which eliminates the need for anything further.

I'm thinking of making one for my niece as just a cute doll. She's not really a Dr. Who fan yet. But as she's 5, there's still time. 8-)

Thanks! I think she has the most complex construction yet of all the dolls, but I enjoyed the challenge. I hope other Rose fans and crocheters will, too. She's my new favorite. :)

Now I have to ask - what was so complex about her? Of course I also have the problem of which order to make all these dolls in because it isn't a question of whether or not they'll be made but which one next?! :)

Dear Grandma Beth,
You are very welcome, and thank you for your sweet note. One can love toys, and making toys, at any age. I hope you enjoy making them and giving them. It will be quite a surprise! If you send me a photo I will post it. :D Happy crocheting!
