Long time no post

Because it's busy chasing two kids :) And because what is there that's new to say when every day is groundhog day?

Sam had a birthday party, which was cute if a little warm. George's sleep has gone down the toilet for some reason with many wakings in the first half of the night then settled(ish) sleep in the second - not sure why - am suspecting yoghurt/dairy intolerance.  House is puttering along - roof on this week.

Meeting today with kitchen design people. It's exciting designing a kitchen if a little daunting. Especially when you are doing a custom build so it's all up to you how you want it - none of this "three drawers in a column where do you want them?" customisation - it's custom EVERYTHING - how wide do you want the bench? How high? What surfaces? What handles? Do you want them vertical or horizontal? Do you want this to be drawers or cupboards here? How high would you like the shelf? How deep each drawer? How wide?

So there's been a HUGE number of little decisions. One thing that has helped (and I'm a decisive type, so imagine if I wasn't!) has been having designed it some time ago then sat on the idea and allowed it to percolate through. There's been a few changes here/there but nothing major.

What it has meant is things like I will have a sharp knife drawer that I can lock the kids out of (for the next few years), and a tea and coffee drawer near the kettle with mugs. The long and short of all this will be that I won't have crap on my kitchen bench. Oh. And a peanut butter/snack drawer. Because that shizznit all over my kitchen bench is driving me CRAZY.

Upside of today's meeting was realising that in budget was a whole raft of stuff we've actually asked to be taken out, so now we have a surplus of $$$ and can probably spend that same amount of money on the living and media room storage cupboards - something I have been kicking back and forth a lot. Sure they'll be made out of laminate - not something I will love to the end of my days (I grew up in a home full of antiques - laminate is not my love) but they will withstand the hardships of a house full of man-boys and frankly it's on budget and within tradie reach. Tradie reach out where we are is a Big Thing. Tradies don't like to travel long distances for pissant little jobs.

So... yay. Hopefully the quotes will be affordable.
