Coeliac

So a few weeks ago I ran the gauntlet of tests again - this is after eating gluten for two and a half weeks (four serves a day - my poor stomach!).

The first round of tests came back inconclusive again - enough so that the doc said "You probably are just gluten intolerant, but we'll do this other gene test anyway just in case" and what do you know?

He's just telephoned me, with the gene test results.

Ayup. I am coeliac.

The last few weeks I've had the mental journey of wondering why the doc got it wrong 12yrs ago, kicking myself for not going for another round of the testing then, thinking of all the effects being (unnecessarily gluten free?) has had on my life, reshaped some of my views about my son's life with allergies etc.

It's almost a relief to find out that the original diagnosis was correct. It means that the last 12 yrs of expensive foods, limited diets, arguing with people about food ingredients etc wasn't worthless.  Sadly it also means I now won't ever cheat on gluten again. Because that way leads to intestinal cancer.
