A little look at what Morning Musume's newest generation is going through, and how things might generally go in Apop(although 2ne1TV covers that pretty well as well):
Dance, bitches, dance! DANCE FASTER! It's such an interesting contrast between the new gen and the old veterans later on. And damn, three practices to get it all memorized? It's illegal for these girls to stay at the studio at night to practice because of child worker laws too, so they must have individually practiced at home a lot! There's also footage of H!P girls having to learn dances on the fly from videos practicing in their hotels while on tour, or in public, to hilarious results.

Most of the girls learn everything by ear, I'd say. One of their most famous former frontgirls(with a pretty good voice to boot) said as much and had no idea how to handle the 3/4 pattern when she had to cover Amazing Grace.
I believe it's been said by the girls before(no sauce, mind you) that all MM girls record the entire song and Tsunku or someone picks the line distributions afterwards. However, this would have been a new development since back in the day this clearly wasn't the case. DAMMIT I CAN'T FIND THE ACTUAL LINK TO PROVE THIS ANYMORE THIS WILL HAVE TO DO:

Some people just sing. Some people tap their feet. Some people punch the beat. Some people do the dance. I'm sure I could extrapolate personality traits. Damn do I wish I could see something like this for SNSD.
I like how they're clearly recording across different studios.
