Yes, you read that right. Part 1. Because I recently discovered some articles(courtesy of R and Jko) that might do all of our discussing for us. D:
But I did this damn idol fic writers survey a month ago, so you're going to get selected answers whether you want them or not, dammit.

Full disclosure of answers(but not identities) available by PM )
I don't think there's that similarity in style anymore - it used to be around, but none of those authors are writing anymore, it seems (or I can't remember what their LJs were or something). I agree that fanon goes around a lot faster. I think the problem with the style copying was that writers started to copy those styles but it wasn't written very well.
I think the content - the story itself - should always be the strongest part. I mean, without a story, who the hell cares about style? It's like a mannequin with pretty clothes.
About changing characterizations: would you say that these new characterizations are being represented by new writers vs. older writers adjusting their understanding
I'd say both, though I would assume that older writers draw on the 'history' since they 'lived through it' ... That doesn't much make sense when I type it out like that though -_-;

Or in NGE fanfic where most all long fics inevitably will reference or get compared to "Shinji And Warhammer 40K".

Writer B touched on this: 'I tend to enjoy less those fics which feel "generic". It may have enjoyably snappy dialogue and good pacing, but I still close the Internet window thinking, "Yes, but it wouldn't be like that." '
Perhaps that's what writer I was getting at, in harsher words? That some popular fanon becomes to pervasive that it overrides actual characterization. Writer I may also be putting 'good' in quotes to point out the difference between the popular fics that spew K-drama cliches like no tomorrow(like the FUCKING HIT-BY-A-CAR PLOTDEVICE GRRRRR) and actual good writing.
Changing characterization: This actually brings up a nice point about fandom "expertise". Is it about the length of time spent in the fandom, or the amount of media one has gone through concerning that fandom? How much of idol fandom is dependent on "you had to be there"? There's definitely a difference in the types of fans that get into past-its-prime H!P, people who got into H!P during the Golden Age and have stuck it out until now through all the shit, people who are getting into SNSD now while they're at the Top, and people who were fans of SNSD when they were still underdogs to WG. But would an older fan hadn't watched every radio bora be a better writer than a new fan who's gone on a media blitz and has more events fresh in their mind?
Except your example of ditz!Sica's emergence in fic points to newbie fans who don't quite understand the evolution Jessica took to reach that point. Older writers I think would temper their blonde's giggles knowing that Fair Miss Frigid Air Senior Trainee Jessica is as much a part of her as Touchy Feely Too Cute Jessica.
