Nippon banzai!*

I'm so behind on news, but I was talking to CP and I have some simple questions. "Genie," as much as I love it, is an interesting choice to port over to the Japanese market. I mean, this single was SNSD's leap into the "mature" image, the contrast they deliberately provided against their super power sugar pop hit "Love Machine""Gee," which was so big that it grabbed the attention of a lot of J-poppers--myself included.

- Why this single? Why not "Gee"? Why not "Into the New World"? Why not "Oh!"? Will there be a coupling song, as usually goes on in the Japanese single market? Will the song be a Japanese original or a translated older song?
- Does the decision to go with "Genie" signal SM's desire to push SNSD as a more mature group in Japan? Or is this throwing wool over our eyes and setting us up for an "Oh!"-like follow up? (Help me out here, AG, but does AKB48 or MM have anything that's quite as deliberately physically tantalizing like the cabaret elements in "Genie"'s dance? Kara's already thrown their butt dance into Japan without a hitch. XD)
- Are they going to get new uniforms and performance outfits? Because, um, well, Korean military outfits in the Japanese market. Yeah. So does this mean we can expect new outfits? Or will SM display some incredible cheapness and just recycle? (And maybe they'll get to use that cover with the Japanese military plane after all . . . ? I typed that feeling very tongue-in-cheek, but . . . Somehow I would not put anything past SM. And wouldn't that be ironic.)
- And is it really too much for a Hyo fan to wish (hee!) that she'll take liberties with her dance break in a manner she never did in Korea? Although . . . I wonder if they'll change up the routine at all. We saw the changes made from the original practice to the final product. Nothing says that they won't make changes to "Genie" to give the Japanese version an original feel and flavor. Hrm.

(*Completely unrelated, but I was rewatching episodes of "Pushing Daisies" and there's an episode where someone actually says this. Nippon banzai!)

song: tell me your wish (genie), *news
