ITNW Concert Shanghai Stop Fan-account Translation [No. 2]

Apr 20, 2010 19:36

Found another detailed fan-account, which I've translated here; there's a bit of YoonYul in it, and this writer devotes more space (and attention) to Yuri, Yoona and Hyo, but mentions all the girls at least once. I've also provided a (rather too lengthy) footnote on the different Chinese character/hanja versions of Yoona's name, if you're ( Read more... )

HAHAHAHHAHAH. HAHAHHHAH at you having to translate/include all the spazzy emotes/expressions and the like where appropriate.
A side note: "Roon erh" sounds like a really badly mispronounced form of Luna, well if one was to speak in engrish that is~
/random and irrelevant
You and your technicalities omg >). But thank you for describing it in such great detail, depth, intricacy and with such precision that is, thank god, miles better than what babelfish/altavista could ever offer or ever hope to aspire to meet the standards/benchmarks that all translated accounts should be :D (well for now that is =x),FLATTER FLATTER FLATTER lol I’m so annoying--And also for that awesome in-depth analysis on Yoona's name in the last few paragraphs, and for a pretty insightful outlook on the linguistics/meaning behind the words, though I wonder if her name would have had/shared the similar connotations (that her name suggests in its varied ways of translations) when taken/interpreted in its Hangul form? Okay that made no sense whatsoever :( But thank you for taking the time and effort to do this /brb stalking your other posts 8)

Groan. I never quite know whether you're taking the mickey out of me. It's very disconcerting.

What I did want to say was, thank you for reminding me, I did forget to address the issue of the hanja-hangul connection. I think the only ways of finding out what it is "means" in its hangul form, would be to either have her tell us, her audience, directly, or for us to have access to the actual hanja (if it exists) on her national IDs, since hanja-hangul meanings are so closely connected.

On this, I asked a Korean unni to run a search on naver, and fortunately, Yoona (and SNSD's) personal ID details do not seem to have been leaked, by which I mean we don't seem to have scans of her passport/national ID card floating around on the Internet. (DBSK members all have had such misfortunes befall them, but the girls have escaped it so far, thank goodness. Think of the identity fraud cases that could follow. Think of Ivy. 'nuff said.)

A search for an "official" explanation of the girls' names also brought up nothing; apparently the K-sones do not have a united answer. It also revealed that they were guessing at even more variants of her name than those 2 which I stated above. (It might also interest you to know that Taeyeon, Yoona, Yuri and Seohyun all have variants in their "internet" hanja names. I think it's because fan-subbers in different places translate their names [by ear] differently.)

Tl; dr? In short, the hangul meaning is probably linked to the hanja, which in turn, no one knows for sure. Since the ITNW concert was "official", i.e. produced by SM, I'd say that's the meaning of her name, and all the other members' names, with which the company is going.

Talk about circles!

Oh i see, thank you for going that extra mile in having one of your friends search it up on naver for me :3. I feel ~spesh~ /ilu flails around.Though I'm genuinely rather surprised that the personal info/IDs of the SNSD members have somehow managed to slip under the public eye and i hope it continues to remain in such a manner, (fingers crossed, scrambles to find the nearest wooden surface to knock on) throughout their whole careers. I never really understood the whole scandal that Ivy had the misfortune of coming into acquaintance with, poor girl D:

But thank you for that concise rundown on the names though, I think i understand what the whole fiasco relating to SM entertainment buying/imposing copyright/legal rights to the names of the all their respective artists/groups last year. I like how their group name on the whole, has a English,Korean and Chinese version (ditto for DBSK and CSJH) but considering how other groups are merely just "F(x) or Shinee or Super Junior" /irrelevant
