EDIT: AHAHAHAHA Yeah, so Rino definitely did not do this one, because I just found out Rino was busy
choreographing The Wiz. Yes,
that The Wiz production in which the acclaimed director Miyamoto Amon auditioned the lead role of Dorothy for out of the 48fam. (Which gave me some of the
best 48fam dance footage evar.) And for more six degrees of Apop, you got a Namie arranger doing the music production, while the art designer was the art director of Ponponpon's MV. There're also other artists in the cast, like Jonte Moaning, Da Pump's ISSA, and disco diva Koyanagi Izumi. Shit, this musical's pedigree is amazing. (I also see a NMB and a couple other Da Pump members in the cast) /end edit
It sounds like a Kenzi-writing-for-f(x) song to me, which isn't a bad thing.
It's a very interesting song, for sure, and better than UZA musically thanks to the latter's good parts being crippled by its terrible hook, but I'll wait for a few more replays before deciding whether I like Flower Power's quirks or not. (Hate that random key-change to the chorus, though. Bad enough that 48fam abuse those as lazy songwriting all of the time.) As of now, though, I think I like it better than Paparazzi, which was a good song, but one I couldn't hear without comparing to Gaga. This one is pretty damn unique and distinct. Gives me "In Love with the HERO" weirdness vibes, and I loved HERO's eccentricities.
Visually, it's no Joseph Khan video, and it
needs moar airplanes, but in the end, I can't deny that it's pretty pretty. Slightly better than Mr. Taxi in the color palette, and miles better than Bad fucking Girl Disappointment Shit MV. Guess they used up all of the money on the last round of MVs, though, since this one's so basic, conceptually. What a shame, the stranger songwriting in Flower Power could have worked really well with some unconventional imagery.
But dammit, SNSD,
look at what you did
to Jpop! And on that note, I understand that non-V formations are new for you, SNSD, and
Riho and Daishi are pretty awesome but come on,
your dance is quite possibly not as good as
MM's. What with the 48fam having that amazing dance for UZA, why on earth are you still only at MM's level?
Fuck it, Imma gonna Fairies dance-spam. Because who got into Kpop because of the dancing?
Because Fairies have a show where they do a new routine EVERY EPISODE. FUCK. YES. The show itself is Fairies competing against actual kid dance crews, (you not only get a great Fairies routine, but a dance crews', too) and then the usual variety shenanigans.
Suck on that, "one month of practice isn't enough." Didn't Homin re-learn Rising Sun in two days? *insert disparaging remark about recent Star Dance Battles*

A couple things strike me watching the above:
1. No popping. Otherwise I'd be making Little Winners comparisons
2. It's all about sharpness. Even SNSD's fast routines Laarbasses and Rhythm Nation have been tempered with smooth curviness.
3. Part of the curviness SNSD have over Fairies is in the smoothness, and the smoothness comes from SNSD's superior sync. (and imo, visible chemistry) Even in Chaotic, SNSD's rookie days, there's a clear effort for sync that Fairies have only mastered for their A-sides. (Then again, SNSD did get to practice Chaotic for much longer than the week Fairies have for these episodic routines.)
4. I can't say whether or not Fairies have more inherent dance talent than SNSD. However, they are sure as hell developing their potential much more. Regardless of the nuances and expression portrayal they may not have in their dancing, they are concretely executing dances of more technical difficulty and wider variety of style than SNSD are. (and have, barring any popping) Having experienced a situation where I had to and was extremely dissatisfied with emphasizing gimmick and image over technical skill, yes, it does make me favor Fairies over SNSD in dance at the moment, in the same way I favor SM dancers over Hyuna.
5. So much bias for Fairies right now, they're hitting all of
my favorite things: fast pace, footwork, spins, posture, and moves that look damn hard!
Fairies also apparently have a corner on some music show where they cover english oldies. Fabulously.(Oh man, it's like Folder5's cover corner all over again! And man, I need to make that Folder/5 pimp post on the LJ at some point.) Each one is accompanied by choreography as complex as any Kpop dance today. You wish that Kpop covers were given this much care. They also did Gaga's Born This Way, but that one was meh.
Like a VirginMaterial Girl Extra sassy
We are FamilyI Heard a Rumor (Oh man, the original is clearly responsible for so many Jpop trends, both composition and arrangement)
Step Back in TimeHot StuffCall Me, arranged so that it sounds more like RDR than a rock song.
Trouble, and I finally know what
this is referencing.
Of course, Flower Power as a song is miles better than Fairies' latest
shitty A-side. (Although
the b-side has potential that Teddy and 2NE1 would have made the critics salivate over)
In the end, the winner of the Flower battle is
Bad Flower.
