C-ute's not-really-10th-anniversary live stream

Jun 29, 2012 18:38

C-ute concert will be broadcast live on Youtube this Saturday 2012-6-30 18:30-20:30 JST (This will be ~5:30 AM EST.) It's sort of 10 years in idol business celebration concert.

I'll be in the FFA chatroom (link in sidebar) at this time. I don't think I've watched a H!P concert released after 2009, and I had stopped keeping up with Berryz and C-ute a little before that, so it should be quite interesting to see what C-ute is like now. I have no idea if this will be a good concert to get into H!P through, for the curious, especially since their vocals can be kind of off-putting. (At this point, I wouldn't be able to tell if they were more or less off-putting than how MomoClo's vocals used to be.) As with all H!P groups now, though, at least half of their music is kind of shit.
But as always, I'll be happily willing to discuss other things than the concert in chat during that time.

Some background on C-ute under the cut:

Their youngest member was born in 1996, and their oldest in 1992. They auditioned for the Hello!Project Kids in 2002, a few participated in a couple one-shot units in 2003,(this was released about two weeks after route0's last single) and performed in all-H!P concert units as a part of the H!PK until their debut as C-ute in 2006, two years after half of the Kids had debuted as Berryz Koubou. They've become known for being a better performance group than Berryz, especially on the dance front, and they also have two excellent singers.

H!P groups do two solo concert tours a year, two H!P concert tours a year, usually release three singles and one album a year, as well as doing an original stage play/musical once a year. C-ute also do their "Cutie Circuit" tour annually in addition to all of this. So if there's one thing C-ute knows how to do, it's how to conduct themselves on stage. (In a recent TV movie I saw featuring them, they enunciate their lines so much more clearly than the non-idol actors, probably stemming from their theater experience.)

C-ute were the first Japanese artist and the fourth artist in the world to stream their concert live via Youtube, with ℃-ute Concert Tour 2011 Spring "Chou! Chou Wonderful." Their most recent single released 30 MVs, released on their YT channel one per day in April. Most were simply solo versions. (It's a generic ballad, so not linking it.)

Their first TV appearance, along with more audition footage. It's like what Jessica's first meeting with BoA could have been like.

The littlest girl here, Suzuki Airi, will become C-ute's frontgirl. Also, quite interesting to see how groups have and haven't changed since 2003. Music Station hasn't changed much, it seems. Dayum ZONE look so young. Here's the most recent performance of First Kiss, in 2010.

H!P's training back in the day. Here's the performance they were practicing for.

C-ute in the practice room. Here's the MV, the single being released in February 2011.

Will leave the rest to that concert tonight, since I myself don't know what their music and dance style is now, so pimping previous perfs might create expectations they won't meet.
