Yet another version of Hoot to blow your mind

Okay, you know what? SM can go ahead and not have SNSD make alt versions of their songs as long as they keep letting awesome singers like these two on the Voice Korea keep doing alt versions.

I did a quick search on Kang Mi Jin, who also calls herself Yoari. According to this Tumblr post, she was originally slated to be one of the Brown Eyed Girls* but NegaNetwork decided she would fit better with a rock style and put her in a band, Sprinkler, that didn't do well commercially. The post I linked has the translation to what seems to be a nicely self-pitying, resentment-ridden set of lyrics directed at successful Idols. Maybe the company wrote it for her.

Hi spunspider. I drop in here once in a while, am pretty ignorant about things Korean. For instance, I don't know anything about these judges 'cept for what Wikipedia tells me.

*But I was under the perhaps false impression that BEG was one of the few Idol groups that actually had self-formed, Jea picking Miryo and Narsha and the three of them then choosing Ga-In. That's what Wikip claims.

holy bitterness, batman! if it's her own composition (if... it isn't, it would be mindbogglingly cruel of her company to make her sing that, holy fuck). ia though, i'd thought jea formed the group. but since they play the idol game, i'm not surprised the company has control over stuff like that.

ha, don't worry - it's a pretty big field; keeping up regularly with everything is a full-time occupation. add fandom to the mix and i can barely stomach it anymore tbh. you just an snsd fan?

Actually, I lean more towards 2NE1 and T-ara, which means I lean every which way since those two are pretty dissimilar. And I once wrote a post pushing the no-doubt specious idea that E.via was a convoluted version of Mick Jagger. K-pop didn't exist for me until mid 2009. I'm slowly working my way back and forward. I still haven't figured out who all is who in SNSD, though I've gotten to where I recognize Sunny and Sooyoung no matter what their hairstyle. Here's my k-pop tag:

Whoa, wait, I'm surprised Yoari's there! I mean she has an album and all that - it was released fairly recently and she had a bunch of interviews with and about her time with BEG. That song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR_tLuzaMyM">Excuse Me was the single she promoted off of that, and it's damn haunting.

I'm not saying she shouldn't be allowed on The Voice - I'm just wondering what this means for her contract (i.e. did her company let her go or something????).

I saw a YouTube comment that said she was still with NegaNetwork, though that's no reason to believe it. If she is, presumably the agency okayed her doing The Voice and would have to give her up if she won, and waive rights to the stuff she does for the show. The intro Mnet ran before her audition was upfront about her experience with Brown Eyed Girls and Sprinkler and solo; I don't understand Korean, but no doubt the interview touched on those years ( ... )
