Cake!

Sitting here eating a piece of carrot cake that I baked on Monday from a Betty Crocker mix, started contemplating the idea of baking my own wedding cake.

Now, I know doing it from a mix would be cheating, but if I get really stuck for time and money it'd be a bit of a life saver.

So, started thinking about what size cake pans I'd need.

The back of the box recommends a 13x9" pan, so if I wanted to make a circular cake I could go for a 12" pan. But what would be the next step from there? How much smaller does each layer get? Or should I be going bigger? 15", 12" and 9"? I guess it depends on the number of guests...

EDIT (2010-02-20):
I baked a Devil's Food chocolate cake and Rainbow Sprinkle cupcakes from Betty Crocker cake mixes on Tuesday with a friend. Definitely considering just baking the cake myself and having friends help me decorate it. Either that, or baking cupcakes. It'd be fun to have people decorate their own...
