the eagles gonna get me!
A precursor: this entry is all about my zoo shit...just a warning for those who don't give a shit...as most of you probably don't....
so starting saturday, all the first year students at EATM will be left alone to care for the entire animal collection. the second years are making their annual trip to davis, so the responsibilities of feeding, cleaning ect. will be left to us. we each get assigned different animals, and i got pretty lucky because i have 7 in my care; two great horned owls, a barn owl, a raccoon, a brown lemur, a golden eagle and the scariest of all, the bald eagle. The bald eagle was wild caught a year ago due to an injury that made it difficult for him to fly long distances, so he would be eaten if he was left in the wild. because of this, he is in NO way used to being around people, and has been known to jump at people's heads! yahoo! fun for me!....and he makes a really scary hissing sound too...my first of many EATM challenges.
another thing i am nervous about has to do with the barn owl. she only eats skinned rats and rabbits. ACK! fucking nasty....and dead rats smell worse than anything i can think of. so yeah...definetly challenge 2.
on a more pleasant note, i also get to do 2 shows (my thang) on sunday; one with the opossum and one with the madagascar hissing cockroaches! that will be fun....and a chance to show the staff what i got! hehe...
i am fucking exhausted though, these last few days have been a huge rush to make sure everything will run smoothly next week. i left my house at 6:40 this morning and didn't get back until 6:40 tonight...and with only two 15 min breaks! It will be all worth it though this coming april...when the zoo is ours for good. i can't wait...we are already talking about who will get what animals next year!
