Do you ever have those moments when you're watching something and you have to pause it because it is just too cute -- TOO. IMPOSSIBLY. CUTE!!! -- for you to digest all at once? This is me with Sungkyunkwan Scandal right now, episode seventeen.

I don't want to post too much about the characters for fear of spoilers (yeah, right, a drama where THE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY HAVE INTRIGUING BACKSTORIES THAT MAKE SENSE AND ADD TO THEIR ARCS AND AREN'T 100% PREDICTABLE, it's truly shocking), but unffffffff they are all my favorite.

Anyway, we have Kim Yoon Hee/"Kim Yoon Shik," our undercover heroine who is A PERFECT GENIUS AND WONDERFULLY COMPASSIONATE AND CARING AND FLAWED BUT TRYING AND B'AWWWWWWWWW I AM SO IN LOVE WITH HER. When we first meet her, she is a common scribe, working for pennies to do the homework of the noblemen scholars. LIKE A BOSS. Then through convoluted kdrama plot antics, she ends up as a nobleman scholar herself. LIKE A BOSS.
Next is Lee Seon Joon. When we first meet him, he is... I don't even remember. Doing something boring. He is by-the-book, tradition-and-procedure-first, Mr.-Stick-in-the-Mud. But his delightful awkwardness grows on you, and! Oh! THE DELIGHTFUL AWKWARD REPRESSED SEXUAL TENSION. IT IS A WONDER TO BEHOLD.
Moon Jae Shin, the rebel with a cause. When we first meet him, he is casually, drunkenly, awesomely (open-shirted-ly) kicking the collective asses of a group of hoodlums who corner Yoon Hee.
He's half devil-may-care badass, half sensitive idealist: basically, the resident bad boy woobie. (Yes, every show must have one.)
(Badass facial hair; sad woobie eyes. HE IS OFTEN MY FAVORITE. I MEAN. SO IS EVERYONE ELSE. BUT STILL.)

Finally, Gu Yong Ha. HE IS OFTEN MY FAVORITE. NO, THIS TIME I REALLY REALLY MEAN IT. When we first meet Yong Ha, he is reading a porno and being a general letch. I mean come on, just look at this face:

His is the role of the flippant playboy who makes everything a joke -- sometimes pushing it too far to the point of cruelty. Yet within his complex tricks, there's always an ongoing curiosity and search for the truth, and he's probably the most aware of what is going on around him.

Seriously, you have no idea how excited I am right now to be watching a drama that is actually adorable and gorgeous and funny but, most importantly, SMART AND WELL-WRITTEN. In a fit of nostalgia (what, yes, I can have nostalgia after two months), I was rewatching some BBF the other day and was just like... ... WHAT IS THIS STUPID SHOW. WHY. WHY IS IT SO STUPID. (And I still love it and it still made me cry. And it was only like the second episode, where hardly anything tearworthy happens. JUST SEEING JI HOO'S FACE MAKES ME CRYYYYYY, AUGHHHHH.)
...Anyway. Ugh, seriously, last week was like hell week at school so I am fully content with doing absolutely nothing productive at all today in compensation. Well, we have exams today so I am trying to bring in some activities for the kids to do if they finish early. For younger students I'm just going to give them coloring sheets, but for the older kids I thought I would bring in some logic puzzles. I've been looking them up this morning, though, and OH MAN I LOVE LOGIC PUZZLES SO MUCH, THEY'RE SUPER ADDICTIVE, I WASTED LIKE AN HOUR PLAYING WITH THEM MYSELF. I hope my students actually like them and aren't just like, "...What. No," because I'm totally excited about this, hahaha.
