Once more I prove myself to be one of those fans -- i.e., one of the cray-crays who actually doesn't loathe Jack -- because I totally dug this episode and, uh, ( spoilers for 6.05 The Lighthouse )
I'M NOT LEAVING, I SWEAR. IT'S JUST AN INFATUATION. Kahlan is like my Mazza substitute, and Richard is like THE ROBIN OF MY WILDEST FANTASIES (okay, not, really -- as I've said elsewhere, I kind of love that our Robin is a douchetastic middling-to-good guy -- but I could just never quite fall in love with him, you know? AND RICHARD IS LIKE PURE ADORABLE HERO-ARCHETYPES-OUT-THE-WAZOO WONDROUS), and I can actually root for the good guys and it is awesome. I suspect that I will always need some historofantasy in my life, and this one is doing quite well at the moment.
Well, like I said, I haven't actually read the books so I can't pass well-informed judgment on them -- and it's funny that you should bring that up about your sister, because I first got into the show from a friend who was a fan of the books. He was excited about the show simply as an adaptation, and told me about it the summer before it started; I had no knowledge of the books or anything, but I looked into the show and was like HOLY CRAP SAM RAIMI/ROB TAPERT, I AM SO FUCKING THERE. I watched the first few episodes as they aired and liked them alright, but when I checked back in with him about it he was anguishing over everything they ruined from the books, sooo... perhaps that is a common feeling? I've never felt much need to seek out the books, though, as a large part of my enjoyment of the show comes from the leads -- I AM SHALLOW, I LIKE THE PRETTY.
