Big Wolf on Campus is... just... there's no real proper way to know how to describe it. The words STUPID and RIDICULOUS come to mind, and yet I love it dearly. Basically, it's about a popular senior in high school who ends up becoming a werewolf, and consequently teams up with the school weirdo, the only one who believes in all that horror/fantasy nonsense (there's also a love interest in the first season who is fairly lame, and then after she leaves they bring in a new girl as their third team member and she is loads better). It's kind of in the same vein as Buffy/Sabrina/etc. -- teenager stumbling upon magical destiny, supernatural conflicts used to mirror the conflicts of high school, etc. etc. -- but it's, hmmm, simultaneously much more high brow and low brow? That is, it's extremely corny and, like, "low budget" does not even begin to cover it; but then at the same time it's also this sort of tight, clever concept show, because pretty much every episode is some sort of pop culture homage. So it's a really weird mix because most of those references aren't really things that would connect with its target audience of younger kids, but somehow it comes together perfectly for me personally as somebody who has the mental maturity of a nine year old but who has also been exposed to a lot of the media referenced in the show (I know the writers on Psych joke about how a lot of times their references/jokes get so obscure that they're "writing a show for six people in a basement," and that's about how I feel about BWoC -- but thankfully, I am one of those six people! So it works!). It's not out on DVD, because sometimes life is lame like that, but episodes are easy enough to find online with some googling.

Anyway. That was long and pointless, considering you don't actually watch it... but. YES. HERCULES WAS AMAAAAZING. It came up recently because one of my friends had her facebook status at "...is watching Hercules," and my first thought was of the Kevin Sorbo series, but then I was like... waaaait... maybe she's talking about the cartoon series, WHICH WOULD BE SO AWESOME!!! ...and then it turned out she was actually watching the Disney movie, so I failed on all fronts, haha. But, yeah, while I wasn't a huge fan of the movie (I didn't hate it, but it's not one of my favorites), I love love loooove the series to little tiny pieces. I am a sucker for hero origin stories, back when they were young and adorable (see: Merlin!), and I also love whack-job best friends (see: Merton on Big Wolf on Campus. Seriously, he and Icarus are so much alike, it's uncanny), and I also love bitchtastic brainy chicks (Cassandra was so the Disney version of Daria, am I right? Of course I am), and I love goofy revisionist legend retellings (see: ...literally every show I watch, geez) so... yes. My giant love was inevitable. I still bust out quotes from it, even though I'm sure they are relevant to... nobody, probably, ha. "You're so stupid you... you think a minotaur is a short vacation!" When I was in high school and we had to do our mythology section in English class, I totally whizzed through everything thanks to my extensive viewership of this show and of Xena as a child. People thought I was smart, but really I just watch too much TV and occasionally luck out when that massive backlog of pointless knowledge works out to my advantage.

It's never pointless to talk about werewolves shows you love shows you love, especially if they're about werewolves! It definitely sounds worth checking out, regardless of pop culture references making that nice 'whoosh' sound as they pass overhead.

Cassandra was amazing (and so much more awesome than Daria because, c'mon, visions!). Icarus was amazing. Adonis was amazing. And for goofy revisionist legend retellings, I can't hear about the Trojan War without thinking, "Psssh, that's just something Homer made up!" also I might have set up a microphone by my TV to record the Spartan national anthem and listen to it all the time, but you didn't hear that And Loki, and the King Midas episode, and everything--

The crossover with Aladdin was pretty epic, too. *_*

OH GOD, WHY IS IT SO EASY TO TALK ABOUT THOSE TWO SHOWS FOR HOURS?

Also, owning your peers at mythology since forever = victory! *high-fives?*
