Time to play catch-up with new TV!

Siiiigh. I knew it had to happen eventually. I was enjoying the legitimate quality of this season far too much for it to last. So thanks, 5.05, for giving me a reality check in the form of a reminder that, as much as I love the show, SGA is still master of the frustratingly stupid. I don't even think it was a bad premise -- the episode started out nicely creepy (and was I the only one getting serious Lost vibes from their first contact with Elizabeth via McKay's computer? I half expected the word "Dad?" to appear from the blinking cursor. WAAAAAAAAALT!!!) -- and, especially with Rodney, I think they did a good job of tapping into all of that residual guilt and anguish over losing Elizabeth in the first place. But as far as giving that story closure? UGHHHH FAIL. Maybe it just brought up too many of my own issues with Weir, I dunno... Just, at the end, when they're like, "At least we KNOW it was her because only Elizabeth would make this decision"? Well, yeah! but probably not in the caring, sacrificial way they intended it; more in the completely nonexistent negotiating skills way. For all their turmoil at being stuck in subspace, the replicators are even worse off at the end of the episode! Lucky them for choosing Elizabeth as their representative! Her gross missteps seem completely out of proportion to her justifications: she basically tells John, "I had to lie to you because I didn't think you'd trust me." WELL GEE I WONDER WHY. The rest of the replicators should have been taking notes on that bit before they followed her through the gate. And, yeah, what's up with that, now? -- because correct me if I'm wrong, but dumping a replicator in the middle of space didn't exactly work wonders when they did it to Niam, so now it's their most effective means of eliminating the threat? And, uh, other continuity oversight -- they made a big deal out of getting into the city in order to procure bodies; but if their ultimate goal was Ascension, doesn't Atlantis still have a friggen Ascension machine? That apparently nobody thought worth revisiting? Aughhhh sometimes I wish this show was written by people who seem to have actually watched an episode or two.

But, well, I guess there was some good stuff... cute team opener (which lends further credence to my theory that SGA and Psych are alternate reality versions of each other! While flying beaked monkeys were swooping down on the team, Santa Barbara's finest was being assaulted by marmosets! COORDINATED MONKEY ATTACKS ARE NOT A COINCIDENCE). Also, Woolsey once again FTW in bluffing the replicators. And, heeee, Atlantis' apparent disdain for Woolsey will never NOT be funny. Ooh, I liked the shout-out to other developed cultures in Pegasus, too (but it would be nice if we could, uhhh, see them every once in a while).

A bit fluffy to be one of my favourite episodes, but it was still really really really funny and, hey, who can ask for more than that? Best silly bits: Shawn getting ZOMG EXCITED about the box in the pawn shop, Shawn sliding across the hood of the car ("...I'm gonna need a tetanus shot"), EVERYTHING WITH BUZZ YAAAAAY, pretty much the entire exchange at Colbert's death ("Birthday cake!" "Oooo, make a wish! ...What?" and "That's it, that's the reveal. We should go... before... people blow up. *runs to car*").

In a further act of SGA/Psych synchronicity, I am SO SO SO BEYOND WORDS ZOMG excited for next week's episodes of each -- SGA because this is the episode that I think half of fandom has been waiting for with bouncy, squee-filled impatience; and Psych because, aaaaahhhhh, THERE WILL BE BLOOD!!! I see on the official site that the title has changed from "There Will Be Murder" to "There Might Be Blood," but whatever yaaaaaaaaayayayay. I hope the title doesn't end up being the only reference to the film, or I will be mightily disappointed. Oh, and more exciting stuff on the Psych site: new Lassiter blog of HILARITY. Man-Scully, indeed (and, oh, you KNOW that Shawn is Mulder!).

Oh! TV news from TV I don't actually watch, but is tangentially related to both of the aforementioned programs! My mom was watching the most recent episode of Burn Notice this afternoon. I walked into the living room and plopped onto the couch next to her, and, and... "Uh, have I been watching too much Stargate lately? Or is that MICHAEL SHANKS?" Answer: YES! That is to say, BOTH!! Apparently he has a guest spot in four episodes this season, starting with the one that just aired? I... may or may not have to watch the next few episodes of Burn Notice. *innocent whistle of a person who is NOT going to start watching another TV show. Really. Pinky-promise*

stargate, woolsey needs his own tag!, stargate: atlantis, psych
