I've got AU. It's actually one of the cheaper/more reliable cellphone companies in Japan, in my opinion. I've been with them for over 3 years now, and never really had a problem. Just... just get the free plan, if you plan on doing any sort of downloading or heavy skype correspondence, that's all I can say XD;.
There are a jillion cell phone stores set up all within a stone's throw of each other, or at least they are here in the Tokyo/Yokohama area. Just grab a Japanese coworker who can speak some English (and are willing to sit with you for an hour or two through the cellphone sign-up process), and drag them to an AU/Docomo/Softbank/whatever store with you. I wouldn't have been able to figure out what was a good plan without my friend Shinobu ^^;;;.
AU has little-to-no English support, but I think Softbank has more English support available. Plus, they've got iPhones exclusively in Japan, if you like those. I think AU gets better reception than Softbank, but that might depend on what area you live in. When you get to Japan, make sure to ask a few people what works best in your area, since dropping tons of calls isn't good for anyone's blood pressure XD;.
Since I saw the total of the bill first, it wasn't so heart attack'y, but my brain kinda sputtered to a stop in confusion when I saw the bill summary XD;.
BE CAREFUL SWEETIE. Lots of talk in the news about how all the major companies are wanting to stop flat-rate plans because of people like us who charge up the big bucks by using it. (Packet rates are INSANE!)
I don't know when this is happening and probably won't effect those of us with plans already, but it is a tricky situation.
There wouldn't be such a "big bucks" issue, if their charges for data services weren't hecka outlandish to begin with -.o;.
Surely they would have to mail out some formal warning, if they were going to stop flat rate plans anyway. They can't just cancel something like that without telling the customers, since we've all signed contracts. Right? If not, that's just stupid D:.
If you hear anything about it, would you let me know o.o? You're always in the loop, Erin XDD.
Holy mother of eff, thank god for flat rates. (I'm so out of the loop of everything ever... I don't have the energy or the time to get back into things either so just *lets it all fall out of my life* At least I got the important things here.) Anyway, so good to hear you getting internet even if it was supposed to cost you $35,000 jeez.
I have no idea if we'll have time to Skype like before, catch up with all the crud we've been going through... time/energy is keeping me from doing things because homg... I'm just getting murdered by RL over here and all. *hangs onto sanity* But, I wish you a happy birthday M-sama~ Wishing you the best. *squishes*
Lol, yeah, I dunno what's up with Japan's data rates -.o;;;. I can't even imagine what I'd have to do in the US to get $35,000 charged up on my cellphone plan @_@;. Nothing would do it, short of going to the president of the cell phone company's office, shitting on his desk, and getting fined $35,000 for it from the police XD;.
WE'LL SKYPE SOMETIME. You know I understand. When I'm not dodging earthquakes and typhoons lately, I'm just being worked to death OTL. *siiiiiiiigggghhhh* I'll catch you sometime, though, and it'll be AMAZING FUN :DDDDD!
THANK YOU FOR REMEMBERING MY BIRTHDAY, HELEN T_T.
Don't give up, you'll be fine. I won't give up, I'll be fine. Somehow, somehow, come on. Mantras are key at times like these ^^;;;.
