Chapter 3
Ryeowook doubled over and tried to catch his breath once they both got to one of the more secluded balconies, away from the crowd who thronged the ballroom for SM Entertainment's anniversary dinner. Beside him, Kyoungmi's breathing was also ragged, and Ryeowook blushed a deep shade of red when he finally realized that he actually grabbed Kyoungmi's wrist and made a run from his group members. He was rather surprised that none of the reporters actually caught him and Kyoungmi running together; but that was also a good thing, otherwise he would find scandals involving the both of them splashed across the entertainment section of all the newspapers on the next day. And that was really the last thing he needed to have, since he was a newly-debuted artist after all.
When his breathing was even enough, Ryeowook turned to face Kyoungmi and gave her a deep bow, much to her surprise. "Mianhaeyo, Kyoungmi-sshi, I shouldn't have pulled you along with me. I kind of acted on impulse…" he said, and panicked when he noticed for the first time that night that she was actually wearing quite a tall pair of heels. "Ah, I even made you run in that pair of shoes. I'm really, really sorry!" he apologized again.
However, the melodious laughter of Kyoungmi caused Ryeowook to look up at her, seemingly confused at her reaction. He was pretty sure that she might be mad at him, but there was no trace of anger on her beautiful features at all.
"I'm not angry, Ryeowook-sshi. It was actually rather fun. And do you know that you're really interesting?" she mused, as she turned to lean against the stone railing of the balcony. Kyoungmi shivered a little at the coldness of it, but looked to her left when the warmth suddenly enveloped her body. She was rather taken aback when she noticed that Ryeowook had actually taken off the coat he was wearing, and draped it over her.
When Kyoungmi tried to shrug it off and return the coat to him, he raised his hand and stopped her from doing so. "Ani, it's fine. You're going to fall ill if you don't keep that on, since I don't think that your dress provides enough coverage to keep you warm," he said, and Kyoungmi nodded slightly, smiling warmly at his thoughtfulness.
They drifted into a comfortable silence, not really knowing what to say with each other. Ryeowook smiled a little when he caught sight of Kyoungmi staring dreamily at the starry skies above from the corner of his eyes, and he took in a deep breath when the refreshing night breeze caressed his face. However, moments later, he could feel someone's breath down his skin, jumping when he realized that Kyoungmi was actually looking at his face up-close with a grin. He moved slightly backwards and started fidgeting with the fabric of his necktie, feeling incredibly self-conscious at the amount of attention she was giving him.
"Hmm, I notice that you're not wearing your spectacles. Are they fixed yet?" Kyoungmi suddenly asked, and Ryeowook managed to squeeze a soft "eh?" out of his throat. That was when he remembered that she had asked him to give her a call after he had brought the spectacles to the optician to get it repaired, on the first time they had met in SME's building.
"Ah, yeah… I don't usually wear glasses anyway. I only put on lens-less ones whenever I feel like it. Oh, and you don't have to worry about the frame the other day. It doesn't cost much," he explained, and she replied with a noncommittal hum.
"So that's why you didn't call me for the past month~" she commented brightly, earning another surprised eh? from Ryeowook. Upon hearing his response, she turned to smile at him. "You can always ask me out for a drink, you know? I mean, that's what friends usually do, right?" A contemplative look now took over Kyoungmi's facial expressions.
"You… You mean we're friends now?" Ryeowook asked, surprised.
"Of course! Wait, or did you not want to be my friend?" she looked at him with a pout. Ryeowook immediately averted her gaze when he could feel that his cheeks were getting a little too warm than was necessary.
"N- no! Of course not! I'm more than glad to be your friend," he managed to stutter, earning a small laugh from Kyoungmi.
"Just kidding! You're really taking my words too seriously," she teased, and Ryeowook managed a nervous chuckle.
Before Ryeowook and Kyoungmi could carry on further with their conversation, the sound of shoes screeching against the polished marble floor behind them caught their attention. They turned around, startled by the sound, only to find Ryeowook's manager panting hard, as if he had just finished running a hundred-meter race.
"Hyung, are you okay?" Ryeowook asked, as he walked forward to check on his manager.
"Yeah, I'm fine… I've finally found you…" the elder male replied between breaths.
"Is there something you need me for?"
"Yes, we were trying to get you on your phone, but you wouldn't pick up. Anyway, your members are currently waiting for you in the bus. We're going back to the dorms right now," his manager explained.
Ryeowook immediately searched around his pockets for the said electronic device, because he really didn't feel any vibration nor hear any ringtones coming for the entire night, but to no avail. He then realized that he had left his phone on the bed back in the dorms, since he had been contemplating to call Kyoungmi earlier. He quickly apologized to his manager for making the latter run around to look for him, before turning around to bid goodbye to Kyoungmi, before rushing off with his manager once again.
Kyoungmi called after him when she suddenly remembered that his coat was still with her, but the pair had since put a great distance between them. She could only sigh exasperatedly, drawing the coat closer to her as she contemplated what to do with it. In the end, she decided that she would wait for him to call her to reclaim the coat - that is if he hadn't lost her number…

The moment the Super Junior 05 members reached their dorms after a tiring day that was packed with schedules, Ryeowook was the first one to squeeze past everyone else and disappeared into the bathroom before anyone noticed that it was the eternal maknae who had just slammed the door. When the other eleven boys began to wonder where Ryeowook had disappeared to, the latter had already finished his shower, and was seen walking into his room in a hurry. And when they peered into the darkness of the room that was shared between Ryeowook and Leeteuk, the younger male already had the covers pulled over his head, fast asleep.
But in truth, Ryeowook was just pretending to sleep. He silently thanked Leeteuk when the leader asked the boys not to disturb Ryeowook, because the latter was evidently pretty tired from all the schedules, and the members left him alone after mumbling something inaudible. Nonetheless, a set of footsteps approached Ryeowook's bed, and through the dim light shining into the room from the direction of the living room, Ryeowook could make out the silhouette of a person standing next to him.
"I know you're not asleep in there, but I guess I'll save you this once," a voice which Ryeowook recognized to be Leeteuk's said, patting him lightly on the head. The younger male managed a soft thanks, and the leader disappeared once again, leaving the former in the comforting darkness.
The moment the door closed behind Leeteuk, Ryeowook pushed the comforter off him, taking in several deep breaths to replenish his oxygen supply. He was rather thankful that he had managed to wriggle himself out of the interrogation by his group members tonight, since he had pretended to sleep in the bus on the way home. He was also the first one who dashed off the vehicle when they had reached the ground floor of their dorms, so no one really had the chance to force him to sit down and talk.
Ryeowook had seen how they questioned their leader about the girl that he had met at the bakery, and it was something that he didn't really want to be subjected to. At least not for now. However, he smiled when the conversation between him and Kyoungmi came back to mind, feeling glad that he actually managed to talk to her without completely embarrassing himself.
And when the realization that he had left his coat with Kyoungmi hit him, Ryeowook slapped his own forehead at his forgetfulness. But after giving it some thought, he concluded that it might not be as bad as he thinks - at least that would mean that he had some excuse to meet up with her again.
