A million stars flickered into existence above the wide horizon, blinking and fading and returning again and again. The moon sleeping behind the shadows of doubt and clouds of regret. Time was still and a quiet breeze drifted through the NEST Base of Operations, cold and comforting and enough to pull Sam from his musings. He knew it was around midnight and he refused to drag himself off into his quarter's knowing exactly what was awaiting him there and it was not going to be pleasant. A mere week had passed since the events in Egypt and Sam refused to return home, choosing instead to stay with his friends. His best friends, even though they were not human.
He shuddered, knowing exactly what was running through his mind. After the run in with the previous Primes, he changed and he knew it. Something in him was changing and it was changing fast, leaving his mind reeling and his thoughts scattered. His mind was wandering as he sat himself in the corner of the hanger, the Autobots were all in recharge or so it seemed. It was quiet and comforting to be in their presence like that and overhead the roof was opened and the starry skies were above. Knees pulled to his chest and his head resting on his arms that were thrown haphazardly around his knees.
'We've watched you, known you and will keep watching you. We know your future and your past; Samuel James Witwicky. Precious child of Cybertron.'
"Wha?" Sam said dazed, realizing that he must have dozed off but he was certain that he had heard one of the previous Prime's speaking to him. His mind was racing with what had been said, confusion furrowing his brow. 'Child of Cybertron?' Yup he was officially losing his mind. He shook his head to clear it a bit and promptly screamed as Ratchet's face appeared so close to his own.
"You're quite loud Samuel. What are you doing out of bed?" The medic 'bot demanded and Sam blushed; knowing that he was in trouble.
"What the frag is going on here!" A loud rumble travelled through the hanger; Sam blinked at Ironhide who had his guns drawn and ready for an attack. He watched with amazement as Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Bumblebee and the twins all crowded around him.
"Hush you rust bucket." Ratchet grumbled as his blue optics ran a scan over Sam's body. "You're scaring my patient." He added testily before deciphering the data and comparing it to all the other data that he could. His faceplates frowning before he scanned again before a rush of air cleared from his vents.
"Are you alright Sam? Your heartbeat is unstable, your temperature is very high and I can detect perspiration on your forehead." Sam nodded only to cringe when Ratchet pulled back and offering him a servo to climb on. He looked at the medic Autobot with confusion.
"Come Sam; I've got some fever reducing medicine." Sam stood shakily, noticing for the first time that his breath was coming in pants and he was shaky on his legs. His head spinning slightly as he stood up and climbed into Ratchet's hand, stomach swaying violently as he was lifted from the ground.
"Is he going to be okay?" Optimus asked the medic and received a small nod. The leader of the Autobots stared after his medic and his charge; he could have sworn he felt the presence of the previous Primes mere seconds before Sam had woken up.
"Go to him Bumblebee." He said after hearing the distressed clicks that spilled from the scout's vocal processors, filled with static as he struggled to convey his feelings of concern. He watched fascinated as Bumblebee followed after the medic, door wings drooping in concern and his warbled and clicks resounding through the large hanger.
"Alright Autobots, it's two hours before sunrise those who wish to get some more recharging in please do so..." He trailed off as he walked outside through the now open hanger doors, compelled that his savoir would not come to any harm.
---------------------------------
His dream for once was a faded memory of long past; time spend with his love and quiet conversations that meant so much more than it should have. It was the sudden authorative voices that filtered through him that caused his conscious to take notice. Once again his heart beat pounded in his ears as bright light surrounded him and the silhouettes of the previous Primes were invading his vision.
'What have I done now?' His mind berated him; knowing that somehow he was once again be putting his friends in danger. It hurt and it was tearing him up inside; maybe it would be better if he had died and never came back just so that he could protect his friends.
"Samuel, do not berate yourself for your fate." One of the Primes spoke to him in a voice akin to concern.
"Hard trails and times were designed to test you; to declare you worthy of your role in the future of the Cybertronians." Another answered his brother. The words confused Sam; he was put through all of this just to test him? His anger was flowing freely through him and somehow knew it was no longer a dream but real.
"Is this some sort of sick joke!? To put my friends in danger because of me? Why not just my friends out of this! You could tested me in some other way right?" His words were becoming desperate and he knew it; the guilt of all the dead Autobots and especially those that promised to protect him were gnawing at his mind.
"It is as Primus dictates." Another answered and before Sam could protest the words that would change his life forever filtered through his mind. Bringing with it a strange hope and unsettling fear...
"Trials and tribulations that have proven you worthy of the task that you must do. Become the beacon of hope of the Autobots and both Decepticons; it is your destiny to unite the Cybertronians as well as become the All Spark to bring new life to breathe into your and our planets. Your heart no longer beats with blood, it beats with a spark; a spark that is already bound to your lover. It will be you who will lead our warring sides together and bring forth the findings of Energon..."
"It is best if you accept your fate; Samuel James Witwicky; it may stretch over time and become a long hard battle but we will be there to guide you as well as the chosen Prime and the High Lord Protector." The dream began to fade as Sam felt the world dissolve to sounds of the real world; just like the fear that was now coursing through him and his voice ringing out loudly.
"WAIT!" He yelled as his eyes shot open and his panting breath spilled past his open lips, worry shining in his hazel eyes that now shone in a bright green glow. He was startled by the blue optics looking at him with confusion.
"I wasn't planning on leaving Sam." Ratchet claimed as he set his wrench down and sent a scan through his patient; confused as to why the human suddenly started yelling. He could note the fear and apprehension in Sam's voice and it showed; yet he frowned as his reading picked up a strong spark pulse from the place where Sam's heart should be. He redid the scan twice and found the same results; he was going to need to speak to Optimus later...
"Where's Bumblebee?" Sam asked, suddenly needing the comfort of his beloved. The question seemed to startle Ratchet from his musings as blue optics turned to him.
"Bumblebee is on the next berth, Sam. He refused to leave you and so I had to force him into recharge. He was very worried about you." Ratchet asked and before he could protest Sam had turned from his cot in the medic bay and clambered down the steps designed for humans and ran over to Bumblebee and climbed onto the berth where the transformed Camero was deep in recharge. He watched with wide optics as Sam curled in the arms of the Autobot; whose servos held onto the tiny human protectively. He monitored the display until Sam was in a deep sleep and went to fetch the Autobot Leader; something was happening and it was beyond his control.
----------------------------------
"Impossible Ratchet. Are you sure your readings were correct?" Optimus asked, what his audio sensors were picking up was simply not making any sense and yet he knew he could not doubt his CMO as he knew Ratchet was not only very thorough with his scans but also the best Medical Officer that was in existence at the moment.
"If you don't believe me Optimus, please feel free to do your own scan but from what I can tell Sam not only had a spark but also has some traces of the All Spark running through his veins." The Medical Officer huffed and turned to leave the Autobot Leader to sort out his thoughts...
Bumblebee was onlined with a start when he felt heat close to his spark chamber; optics softened when he saw Sam curled close to his spark chamber. He noted the heat between them and frowned when bluish tears spilled from Sam's eyes as he was caught in his dreams. Bee felt his own spark pulse with not only love but also concern as he could feel the emotional turmoil run through his human. He could feel his own emotional processor threaten to overload with all the different sensations.
Sam started from his dream; his breath hitching at the sensation of a very large finger and a gentle touch on his cheeks. That finger tenderly wiping away at his tears that he knew was spilling. His dream still fresh in his mind; not only the message from the primes but the sadness that he felt radiating from the Primes at the war that tore apart their planet and future with the promise of millennia of pain. He glowing green eyes looked up at the blue optics of his Bee and a pained smile briefly tugged at his lips. The only being he could show his tears to without the fear of being questioned and berated in a way that he felt that he had to lie.
"Are you alright Sam?" Bumblebee's normal voice rang out and Sam was amazed at the gentle and caring tone that he heard; it was filled with as many emotions as his heart was at the moment. So Sam did not lie this time, he did not pretend to be strong he inched closer up the chassis of the Autobot; his pained sobs spilling from his throat as he clung to Bumblebee. All his emotions spilled through his tears; fear, pain, sorrow and anxiety. For once even more grateful for Bumblebee's voice; the small comforts the Autobot whispered was enough to ease his suffering a bit.
"I'm so sorry, so...sorry." He sobbed out, knowing that the pain that the Autobots were forced to go through was mostly his fault. The words he heard from Bumblebee was what he always wanted to hear and it stilled his turmoiled heart and slowed his tears.
"Hush Sam; don't be sorry because I hate seeing you like this. I love you, my little human. Please don't be sorry." Sam was happy and for once he forced the feelings that the Primes pushed onto him to the back of his mind as the calming servo stocking his back made his tension fade as he clung to Bumblebee.
"Bee, can we go for a drive?" Sam asked as he unravelled himself from his beloved. The sudden need to get away was flowing through him; to just be alone with his Bee...
----------------------------------
"Thanks Bee." Sam whispered as they rolled to a stop at the top of a sheer cliff with the ocean a few feet below them; waves crashing against the sharp rocks. Sam got the courage to ask the one question that had been bothering him since he woke up. Sam got out of the drivers seat and leaned against the hood; fingers exploring the paint beneath his palms.
"Bee, I really love you. More than I know I should, so you are the only one I can trust at the moment. I want to ask you Bee, do you think it would be better for you guys if I died?" Sam got a fright as the Camero beneath him shook violently and the whirs and clicks of gears as the Camero transformed and before he could protest he was nearly crushed against Bee's spark chamber. He could feel it vibrating against him. Bee's voice rumbled into his chest and filled his heart and mind with ease.
"Please don't say that. Without you we never would have been able to find a planet good enough to take care of us. Nor would I have met a person with more love and compassion than you Sam. I've spent thousands of years in a terrible battle; so much so that I locked away my emotional processors and yet here you are. A single human enough to awaken the spark of not only Megatron but Optimus as well. Both of whom have spent millennia of hatred in a war that would never end and here you come and for once I see the difference."
Silence stretched beyond them and the only thing that could be heard was the waves beneath them; for once Sam felt at ease and jut allowed himself to feel the air around him and the servo that was holding him so close the Bumblebee's spark; which Sam was sure was sending the little shocks of love travelling through his vain and settling in his heart; making him feel whole.
