quarter post-mortem

Jun 19, 2008 22:52

and another quarter is over.

finals week is over as of today.  it was very anticlimactic.  my presentations went well, and our group game presentation went well.  it's at alpha and was rated better than the two golds that were presented at the same time.  (we had three classes presenting games, two ahead of us and us, and two lower classes observing.  the room was *packed*.)

i have the odd mixture of being both elated and disappointed at my grades.  the two i thought i had pretty solidly in the a-range i got b's in, and the two i thought a C was the highest i could hope for i ended up with a's in.  i'd love it if i could just be thrilled, but the b's are bothering me.  no feedback from the instructor in one class (*ever*), so i have no idea if my work just didn't meet his expectations or if i did something wrong repeatedly or what; the other was our group project, which i worked my @$$ off for.  (i'm our only texture artist [althoug a couple things were done by others, like the weapons textures by rene].  i did over 30 textures in 7 weeks, plus having to retouch several of the models i was texturing?  and i know i did them well, but that wasn't graded anyway.)  so i'm not sure why that was a B, unless the midterm grade carries more weight, which we all got a B on (group project, everybody shares a grade, and in a professional document, our author used *emoticons*.  christ.  plus other things, but that right there is enough.)  anyway.  oh well.  i assume i got the grades i deserved, and so i am quite happy (a b is nothing to frown upon).

i'm *really* happy with my grade in my advanced programming course. i didn't have it working completely the way i wanted, but we presented today and i know mine was one of the better ones in the class, even considering it's bugs.  (mostly it was because i had good art in place, which made the other bugs less noticeable.)  I knew i'd pass the class (i was having computer issues all this week, i have to reformat now that i'm done for the quarter, hopefully that fixes it) because i talked to the instructor tuesday about the hardware issues, and he told me that even if i handed nothing in for a final project, i'd have a D, but i really didn't think my project would be good enough for the grade i got.  no complaining, just amazement.  most of the work on the game was done this week.  in order to get what i needed done, i downed a bit of caffeine, popped in a pirates of the caribean marathon (plus some of starship troopers), and sat up until 3:00am emailing my instructor and trying to get my AI working right. (instructor went to bed about 11:00, i fixed the AI problem about 1:00, and did a bunch of other work in that time, too, not just the AI.  i never got the damage working, but i'm hoping to spend some more time playing with it over break.  i'd like to turn this into a more workable game (and figure out why torque hates level two and crashes half the time I try loading it......)

anyway.  same amazement with my gen ed---i had a b at midterm, and got a C on the midterm exam itself, so didn't think i'd done much better on the final, but apparently i did.  i'm quite relieved.  and *so* happy to be out for three weeks.  i think the general class consensus is it's time for a break.

then the fourteenth we start again.  yee-hah.

ok.  i think i'm done babbling.
