"New York Observer" young adult article

Interesting article today posted on the New York Observer website regarding vampires in upcoming young adult fiction. You would think according to tradition that vampires would have run their course, yet they seem to be picking up steam. The article features a lot on Stephenie Meyer's TWILIGHT series. You know, as much as I like Meg Cabot, that was a catty comment. Bella's not much of a feminist, but I like to think that her desire to be a vampire isn't just about Edward. I think it's a deeper wish to be powerful, perfect and young forever.

At any rate, I think supernatural YA is not a new thing. When I was in middle and high school, RL Stine and Christopher Pike were the HUGE attractions to all those book fairs and library hours. We used to fight over the new Christopher Pike books when they came in at the library. I always liked ghost stories, myself, but if there had been vampire lit around, I would have loved it.
