Good trip turned interesting....

So Wednesday afternoon I left Alaska and headed down to good ol' Georgia. The trip was pretty splendid, all things considered-- I didn't miss any connections, and I even got a bulkhead seat on the second leg of the flight (more leg room!). When I got off the plane in Atlanta, my bag was waiting for me at the carousel already (which NEVER happens), and it took all of 3 minutes to get my rental car. OK, I thought, everything is going too smoothly. Something's up.

Sure enough, I was right.

Yesterday, while I was visiting with Bryan Agan (my middle school student-teaching supervisor), I stepped on a rusty nail sticking out of a board in his yard. Ouch, by the way. It stopped bleeding almost immediately and didn't hurt too badly, so I continued on with my day, knowing full well that I would have to get a tetanus shot soon, but not wanting to miss out on the things I had planned for that day (like shooting with Bryan, then Redcoat rehearsal, then hang-out time after Redcoat rehearsal).

My foot got progressively worse through the night, and by Friday morning I was very certain I needed to go to the E.R. (well duh). They gave me a tetanus shot, then numbed my foot (by the way, the shot they give you to numb the area is probably more painful than the cutting they did later) and drained the wound. Gave me drugs (yay drugs) and sent me on my merry, hobbling, drugged-up way. Sure, fine, whatever. I went and hung out with the tuba-euph studio at the new East Campus Village dining hall (not bad, but still dining hall food), then headed out to Jasper.

Jasper was fun, and it is always wonderful to see the Boyds, so the increasing pain in my foot was for the most part ignored for the lion's share of the evening. However, when I took my shoe off last night I realized that the top of my foot was now showing signs of infection. Not good. I marked the area with a Sharpie so I could track its progress over night. Sure enough, this morning it had spread, soooo I headed to an urgent care clinic in Canton. They told me that the St. Mary's ER hadn't prescribed a strong enough antibiotic, so they put me on an antibiotic IV drip for about two hours, bandaged my foot up, gave me stronger drugs (yay drugs) and sent me on my way. Now I sit here waiting for Lindsie's wedding to begin.

Although my foot has gotten quite a bit of attention over the past two days (and throughout this LJ entry), the best part of coming down here has definitely been being able to see good friends whom I haven't seen in quite some time. I'll probably continue coming back to Georgia as long as there are people here to visit because to me, this feels like home.
