I'm conducting a poll, because I'm still debating this.
As some people might know, I've been waiting for this new Zelda for a long time, and now we know the day it's coming out. But there's a few choices.
A ) I could buy a Wii and the game at launch and get the Gamecube version when it comes out 3 weeks later.
B ) I could skip the Wii for now, wait 3 weeks to buy the Gamecube version, and buy a Wii sometime later when the price drops.
Now there's pros and cons for both of these.
Pros for Wii:
- I get it at launch so no spoiler exile.
- The Wii controls might be fun.
- Widescreen
Cons for Wii:
- 300$. Ouch for the wallet.
- I'll have to deal with preorders and the insanity of a launch day wait.
- At the moment I don't know many other Wii launch titles I'll be interested in. I don't want to jump the gun and buy a system when I won't want it for another year (other than for Zelda. I mean I have trouble justifying a full-priced console buy for 'just one game')
- I still haven't tried out the Wii controls so I don't know if I'll like it for Zelda or not.
Pros for Gamecube:
- 50$, which I already have set aside. I'm getting the Cube version either way.
- No crazy line waits as I've already preordered it
- My Gamecube will have a purpose for a little bit longer, and when I do eventually get a Wii it'll probably be cheaper.
Cons for Gamecube:
- No widescreen.
- I'll have to wait 3 agonizing weeks where I'm not touching the Internet with a 10 foot pole lest I get spoiled somehow.
- Some say it might be technically inferior to the Wii version.
So I guess it comes down to this: Is it really worth 300 to get Zelda three weeks early? I'm posting this mostly for feedback - I'm trying not to be an impulse consumer.
So what do you think, sirs?
