Since late July, I've known that my position at my current job was going to change from being a Monday-to-Friday 8-hours-per-shift working schedule to a compressed work week composed of three to four 12-hour shifts per week. The reason for the change is that the rest of the factory I work in has already moved to that compressed work schedule so that the place can operate 24/7 and make more money. My department needs to also be 24/7, so we've hired a couple new people and they're all trained up so we can now finally move to the compressed work schedule and each of us will get our own shift. My shift will be Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays plus every other Wednesday working 5:15 AM to 5:45 PM. This begins in two weeks on Monday, December 1st.
One of the reasons I quit my previous job back in March of 2013 was because I was tired of the compressed work schedule. Ironically, one of the reasons I took this current job is that it was going to be a Monday to Friday 8-hour shift situation. It appears things change. This time around, however, instead of working 12-hour shifts on the overnight schedule, I have been given my choice of working the daytime schedule at the beginning of the week. Completely the opposite of my previous workplace. This could be a good or at least more agreeable situation. It might be nice to have half the week off but twelve hour shifts are tough. Eight hour shifts seem to fly by but add four hours and suddenly it feels like it never ends. It's going to be strange. I guess we'll see how it goes.
We hit a rough patch with Nicole and my recent eBay success. Nicole has been selling a storm lately and the money just keeps pouring in. We bought several tall metal storage racks to hold all of her inventory and they've taken over our tiny apartment. I'm not complaining at all since it does look kind of nice and it's great for her to have somewhere to put all this stuff. Unfortunately, we had a couple setbacks all the sudden. We are dealing with a buyer who might want to return a very expensive item because we didn't include one missing part (Bummer), eBay has suddenly enforced a limit on the number of items we're allowed to have listed at once which has slowed us down, and the other day we grossly underestimated the shipping cost on a sale and will only profit $9 on an item we sold for $50. On that last one, we've changed how we list large items. From now on, we'll find a box first before listing and get the proper dimensions and weigh for the whole box. That way, we won't under estimate the cost of shipping by over $30. Whew what a punch in the gut that was, but it's good that we're learning from our mistakes. With the good comes the bad and we move on.
Not too much else going on. Every day we're just puttering along trying to stay stable and comfortable. In contrast to the heat wave we suffered through all summer, we're in the middle of a bitter early winter freeze with temperatures in the 20s for a week. So wild. I'm praying for a soft winter season...
