Moving Val / Buster Cel Discovery / Olympics!!

Ugh. What a night that was. Last night, my sister, Val, stopped by to borrow my parents' GMC Suburban truck. After seven months, she's finally beginning to haul some of her larger furniture out of the house she's shared with Franko for the last couple years. Finally, after all this time, the great move has begun. And of course where was I? Knee deep in it as the muscle. We get over there with the truck and Franko is hanging out watching the Olympics. We announce what we're taking with us (Her LCD TV, the stand for it, a table, some chairs, a stand and a large cabinet) and begin dismantling things so they'll fit in the truck. Franko implores Val to wait a couple days so he has a chance to go through some of the stuff we were taking, but Val snapped and chewed him out for stalling seven months on this. Val made some really good points that she's the one who's been living in a friend's basement while Franko has been living in their house. They had a miniature argument while I'm there on the floor taking a table apart and I just wondered to myself what I'd gotten into.

From then on, Franko was pouty and only mildly-helpful. We made one trip to the friends Val's living with indefinitely (The oft mentioned Nick and Patches), emptied the truck, and on the way back to get more stuff, Val made a prediction. She wondered aloud to me if Franko would spite her by putting a bunch of random crap on the driveway while we were gone. Both of us believed we'd made it clear that we were only taking a couple large pieces of furniture and nothing else. Sure enough, as we got rolled up, Franko had moved a good deal of Val's random crap onto the driveway. Bins and clothes and frames and literally random things. Valerie slammed the truck door and took Franko to task yet again for doing exactly what would have annoyed her most. As they blew up at each other on their driveway, I loaded the truck with what I could before sitting down with the cats to watch the Olympics. They eventually calmed down and Val and I made one last trip to Nick and Patches' to drop off the stuff. I came home (Finally) and was wiped out. I got my exercise for the week! Nothing like helping someone move to work up a sweat. Breakups suck.

So now that I've got the first Tiny Toon Adventures set of DVDs, I've run to the episode from which that animation cel I own and framed came from. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like the cel I own is not from the show. It's obviously a drawing of Buster Bunny and it has registration marks that put it in that specific episode, but the cell that's actually in the show and mine are not the same. I've put together this collage of images showing how different the two cels are:

Yea, it really does look like I own a different cel than the one that was actually used in the show. I'm a little disappointed, but I take comfort in knowing that the cel I own had to have been in the presence of the actually-used cel because of the registration marks as well as the quality of the cel. My cel could have been a production test, or a tracing of the original as practice for the animators or maybe even have been an unused layer. All I know is that what I've got is something real from the production and although it wasn't used in the show, it had purpose somehow behind the scenes. And one day I do hope to own a cel that actually was "screen-used." I think collecting animation cels could be a fun hobby I'd like to get into.

Finally, I'd just like to put a mention in my journal that the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing are happening right now. The opening ceremonies last week was unreal and just shows what you can accomplish after training people for seven years. As for the sports themselves, I'm surprised how badly some of the athletes are performing. Lots of gymnasts are messing up and now we're hearing about the wrestlers playing below Olympian standards. Pressure must really be on! I love watching, though. It's good to see the world coming together for sports. It's too bad the rest of humanity can't come together like this all the time.
