New Router! / Projector Problems / Spring Cleaning '07

Easter came and went without much fanfare. In fact, so little happened in the last week that I didn't get a chance to use my "Easter Buster" userpic in a post for lack of goings-on. Today, however, was a pleasant shift.

After a week of damp, soggy weather, the sun shone brightly earlier this morning. Right off the bat, our postal carrier knocked at the door with a package for me! Finally, a new wireless router I paid $80 for had arrived. The one we used previously was a piece of garbage that had to be physically power-cycled at least once every day or two. What a pain. That's what I get for paying $30 for the device that we rely on to get online. The $80 one I got is an Apple Airport Extreme that never needs to be manually reset, can be updated from any connected computer, and is super easy to setup. I love it already, as this is the very first post on the new router!

Once that project was taken care of, I had to figure out why the projector in the theater room has developed a strange problem and to then fix it. The video image has recently become wobbly and it flickers, which shouldn't be possible in digital video. We at first suspected bad cabling or even that the projector itself was dying. But after playing around with where the projector was plugged in, I noticed that the phenomena goes away when it's plugged into different power outlets. So there's a power "noise on the line" issue probably stemming from the new smoke alarms we put up a couple weeks ago. My dad and I will probably spend the next several days goofing with that crap.

I was on a roll by the afternoon. It was time to tackle a much larger project. I've been meaning to rearrange and dust my room for weeks now but haven't found the ambition. Finally, the amount of stuff on my floor needing to be taken care of (Mainly outgoing eBay auctions) reached injury-causing levels, so it was due time. Basically I just spent a few hours dusting everything and moving a couple things around. I put a bookcase in my closet which opened up the floor. I still have a few boxes here of things that are waiting to be sold on eBay, but those should be out of here by mid-week. I'll have my floor back and some more green-backs lining my pocket. Tomorrow, however, some more dusting and organizing will happen. Call it a spring cleaning of sorts!
